A restyled version of the second Mitsubishi Diamant began to be assembled in 2002. The Australian plant MMAL, located in the city of Tonsley Park, produced the first copies of this generation. Changes to the following elements were not affected: the base of the body, doors and roof. Basically changed the front and rear of the car. The hood, grille and front bumper are made in a wedge shape, which later became the corporate style of Mitsubishi cars. Also, these engines are equipped with a one-piece crankshaft and an aluminum manifold.

The 6G71 unit is equipped with a single camshaft, the gas distribution mechanism is made according to the SOHC scheme, which is capable of developing 5500 rpm, and also has a compression ratio of 8,9: 1. This engine has a large number of modifications. Over the years, it has been subjected to various improvements, so different versions could have different technical characteristics. A version was installed in Mitsubishi Diamant that is capable of delivering 125 hp. It had a cast-iron cylinder block, and its head was made of aluminum, which, unlike older engines, significantly reduced the weight of the structure, and also increased the maximum temperature regime.

This power unit, with proper handling, will serve the owner for a long time and without fail. However, when using low-quality fuel and lubricants, this engine will bring a lot of trouble. The most common problem is excessive oil consumption. The reason for this, in most cases, are valve stem seals. Symptoms of this malfunction are the appearance of oil streaks and an increased amount of smoke in the exhaust gases. Also, hydraulic compensators often fail. If extraneous knocks appear during the operation of the internal combustion engine, it is necessary to check the correct operation of these parts. In addition, the disadvantage of this power plant is the likelihood of bending the valves when the timing belt breaks, so you need to pay more attention to this element of the car.

Motor 6G72

It is also made of cast iron and has a camber of 60 degrees. It has a V-shaped arrangement of cylinders. The engine capacity is 3 liters. The cylinder heads are made of aluminium. It has two camshafts. Valve clearances in these vehicles are not adjustable, since hydraulic compensators are installed in it. They are also equipped with 24 valves. Mitsubishi Diamond cars, with this power plant under the hood, develops a power of 210 hp. at 6000 rpm. The torque indicator reaches 270 Nm at 3000 rpm. It works in conjunction with a 5-speed automatic transmission.

This engine also has short-lived valve stem seals and rings, due to which there is an increased consumption of oil fluid. The solution is to replace these elements. There are also problems with the appearance of a knock in the engine. It is necessary to pay attention to the operation of the hydraulic lifters, as well as to the serviceability of the connecting rod bearings, which can turn. Improper functioning of the idle speed controller can lead to the fact that the engine does not start, and its idle speed starts to float.

Engine 6G73 MVV

This power unit, with a volume of 2.5 liters, has a compression ratio of 9.4, as well as a single-shaft cylinder head with 24 valves. Cars with this power plant were necessarily equipped with all-wheel drive and automatic transmission. The maximum power was 175 hp, and the torque was 222 Nm at 4500 rpm. This engine was produced from 1996 to 2002. It had the same disadvantages as other engines from the 6G family. If the cars were operated in cold regions, the owners carried out the installation of engine heating.

Engine installation 6A13

This engine has been used only in the second generation of Mitsubishi Diamant since 1995. There is an opinion among Diamond owners that this motor is the best unit for this car. Its volume is 2.5 liters. It has a direct fuel injection system. Among the malfunctions, one can distinguish the appearance of a knock in the motor. This may be a consequence of a malfunction of the central cylinder, which begins to knock under increased load. It is also possible the appearance of increased engine vibration, the fault of which is a worn pillow of the power plant. However, in general, this motor can be called a reliable and durable unit.
