Nissan's vg engine lineup includes several different units. The engines are internal combustion engines that have excellent performance even today.

Engine description
This series of motors was presented back in 1983. Several different options are presented. There are 2 and 3 liter modifications. The historical feature was that the model is the first ever V-shaped six-cylinder internal combustion engine from Nissan. A little later, modifications with a volume of 3.3 liters were created.
A variety of injection systems began to be used. Features of the materials used in the construction:
- iron block;
- aluminum head.
Initially, engines of the SOCH system were produced. This implied the presence of only one camshaft. There were 12 valves, 2 for each cylinder. Subsequently, several different modifications were designed. The consequence of the modernization was the use of the DOHC concept (2 camshafts and 24 valves - 4 for each cylinder).

Engines of this type have not been installed in modern cars for a long time. Nevertheless, cars purchased on the secondary market equipped with such motors are in demand. The main reason is ease of maintenance, unpretentiousness to the type of fuel used. Even compared to today's vehicles, Nissan's vg series consumes relatively little fuel. Separately, it should be noted the possibility of self-diagnosis of the motor.
Even after 30 years on the road, you can find cars aggregated with ICE models of this series. The main reason for this is not only the unpretentiousness and relative cheapness of repairs. But also a significant resource of this motor. According to the owners, before the first overhaul, the mileage is approximately 300 thousand km. But this indicator is not the limit, it all depends on the quality of the oil used, as well as its timely replacement.

Motor reliability
The series of engines differs not only in its maintainability, but also in reliability. For example, you can find a Nissan Terrano in the secondary market equipped with a vg series engine with a mileage of more than 400 thousand km. Despite the differences between vg30de, vg30dett and other models from the series, they all have a long service life. The following minor malfunctions are possible during operation:
- push when shifting from first gear to second - usually the problem lies in the backstage located between the gearbox and the gear lever;
- increased fuel consumption in the combined cycle - flushing of the engine is required, in particular the intake tract.
Maintainability
An important advantage of the motor, even over modern analogues, is maintainability.
The motor is relatively easy to disassemble. Separately, it should be noted the possibility of self-diagnosis of this motor. The control unit does not require the connection of a special diagnostic device. It will be enough to use the error decoding from Nissan.
The electronic unit is a metal box in which there is a hole - it contains two LEDs. The red diode indicates tens, the green diode indicates units. The location of the unit may be different depending on the model of the car (in the right pillar, under the passenger or driver seat). It is important to note that the DOHC system engine is equipped with a timing belt, which periodically requires adjustment and replacement of individual components. The installation of the belt must be carried out strictly according to the marks.
If the belt is not replaced in time and it is torn, then the valves will be bent by the impact of the pistons. As a result, an overhaul of the engine will be required. When replacing the timing belt, you will need to replace:
- guide rollers;
- oil glands on the "forehead";
- guides on a special timing pulley.
It's important to check compression. It should be in the range from 10 to 11. If it drops to 6, it is necessary to fill the cylinders with oil. If after that the compression has increased, it is necessary to replace the valve stem seals. To set the ignition, you must connect a stroboscope. Need more attention:
- thermostat - if it fails, the cooling fan will stop turning on;
- a signal to the tachometer - this is what causes the inoperability of the latter;
- starter brushes - visual inspection is necessary.
It is important to periodically check the knock sensor. The rest of the components must also be in working order. Otherwise, there is an increased fuel consumption. There may be other engine problems.
What kind of oil to pour
The choice of oil is one of the most important points. One of the best solutions is the Eneos Gran Touring SM. Typically 5W-40, SAE is used. But it can also be filled with oil from other manufacturers, of a different consistency.
Many use original oils. For example, Nissan 5W-40. According to some car owners, the use of ZIK leads to increased consumption of engine oil. Therefore, its use is undesirable. When choosing, it is important to follow the manufacturer's recommendations.
