A14NEL, A14XEL gasoline engines are modern power units from Opel. They were first installed under the hood of a car in 2010, these motors are still being produced.
The A14XEL engine is equipped with such Opel car models as:
- Man;
- AstraJ;
- Race D.

Features ICE A14XEL
In order to obtain sufficient torque on a relatively small volume of the motor, it is additionally equipped with the following systems:
- distributed injection system;
- Twinport intake manifold;
- a system for adjusting the valve timing, which translates this internal combustion engine into a modern EcoFLEX series.
But the presence of all these complex systems still does not make this engine a “traffic lighter”, it is an engine for those who like to travel measuredly and save fuel. The nature of this motor is not at all sporty.
Features ICE A14XEL
Almost simultaneously with the A14XEL, another motor was created, which was marked as A14XER.
Its main difference was in the settings of the computer and the valve timing system, all this helped to add power to the power unit, which was so lacking in its prototype.
This motor is more interesting, it is more cheerful and dynamic. It is also not from a sports series, but it does not have such a “vegetable” character as the A14XEL ICE discussed above. The fuel consumption of this engine is slightly higher, but still this power unit can be called very economical.
Motor resource
Small volume - small resource. This rule makes sense, but these engines can be called quite tenacious for their volumes. If you take care of the engine, service it correctly and on time, then you can drive a solid 300 thousand kilometers to the “capital”. The engine block is cast iron, it can be bored to repair dimensions.
Oil
The manufacturer recommends filling the engine with SAE 10W40 - 5W oil. The interval between engine oil changes should not exceed more than 15 thousand kilometers of escape.
In practice, motorists prefer to change the oil about twice as often.
This makes sense given the quality of our fuel and the likelihood of buying counterfeit engine oil. By the way, these internal combustion engines treat Russian fuel well, problems with the fuel system almost never arise.
Deficiencies, breakdowns
Experienced motorists who have already driven modern Opels can say that the “sores” of these engines are typical for the brand, the main problems can be singled out separately, these include:
- jamming of the Twinport damper;
- incorrect operation and failures in the valve timing system;
- engine oil leaking through the seal on the engine valve cover.
These problems are solvable, experienced employees of service stations know about them. In general, A14NEL, A14XEL engines can be called reliable and trouble-free, especially considering their cost, the cost of their maintenance and saving money on refueling.
Contract motors
If you need such a spare part, finding it is not at all a problem. The engines are common, the price of a contract motor depends on the year of manufacture of the motor, as well as the seller's appetites. Typically, the price of a contract ICE starts at about 50 thousand rubles (without attachments).
