Opel Insignia engines

Opel Insignia has been in production since November 2008. It was invented to replace the obsolete Vectra model. But in England, unfortunately, sales of the car were not successful. The reason was the specific name, which has the translation "emblem", as a popular shower gel.

The history of the development of the model

The manufacturer made minor changes to the model, but ignored it in terms of global development. Therefore, the second generation appeared as early as 9 years later - in 2017, although restyling was carried out in 2013. After making changes to the design, the car became popular in China, North America and even Australia.

Brief history of the model:

  1. July 2008 - presentation at the London Motor Show. Launched in Germany.
  2. 2009 - creation of a variation of Opel Insignia OPC, start of sales in Russia.
  3. 2011 - assembly of machines for the Russian market begins at the Avtotor plant
  4. 2013 - restyling.
  5. The end of 2015 - sales of the new Opel Insignia in Russia are completed.
  6. 2017 - the creation of the second generation, the start of sales in European and world markets.

Opel Insignia is sold in different countries under different names, for example, in Australia it can be found under the name Holden Commodore, and in the USA - Buick Regal.

First generation

At first, the Opel Insignia was created as an all-wheel drive mid-range sedan. He immediately raised the requirements for D-class cars, because he had a stylish interior, elegant body design and only high-quality finishing materials. Buyers were repelled by the high price and strange, in their opinion, the name.

In the same year, the model was supplemented with the opportunity to buy a five-door liftback (which was then called a hatchback), but five-door station wagons appeared already in 2009. All models were excellently managed, were maneuverable and dynamically overcame obstacles. Opel Insignia received the title of "Car of the Year - 2008".

The four-door sedan was equipped with a 6-speed automatic or manual gearbox. The volume of the engine could be 1,6, 1,8, 2,0, 2,8 liters. The five-door liftback and wagon had the same characteristics. All four engines were Euro 5 compliant, from a 4-cylinder in-line (115 hp) to a 6-cylinder V-twin (260 hp).

Only premium class materials were selected for interior trim. The design was the first to use embossed surfaces, sweeping lines and unique color combinations. Particular attention is drawn to the narrow lines on the sidewalls and the special sections of the wheel arches.

For the Opel Insignia OPC version, only a 6-liter V-shaped 2,8-cylinder turbocharged engine was used. It reconfigured control systems and increased power.

The exhaust system has also been modified, so the resistance is reduced.

Restyling 2013 of the year

In 2013, the already existing advantages were supplemented by a new chassis system, special headlights, adaptive all-wheel drive and an environmental monitoring system.

In the Opel Insignia Sports Tourer (station wagon, 5 doors) and other re-staling Insignias, the 2,8-liter engine was removed, but a simpler 1,4-liter version was added. The units began to turbocharge and play with the fuel injection system.

The chassis of the new design with integrated electronically controlled suspension significantly stabilizes the car even during sharp turns and off-road. The torque of the motor is evenly distributed between all wheels, eliminating the possibility of loss of control.

The second generation

In the second generation, only the five-door backlash and station wagon remained, the sedan is no longer produced. The design of the body and interior has undergone significant changes, without losing the overall spirit of Opel.

The manufacturer decided to give a wide choice of engines in addition to the new design and improved features - from a simple 1,6 liter and 110 hp. up to a double turbocharged 2,0 liter and 260 hp

By the way, only the latest version comes with an automatic transmission for 8 gears, the rest have only 6.

The Opel Insignia Sports Tourer wagon boasts only two versions of engines - 1,5 liters (140 and 165 hp) and 2,0 liters (170, 260 hp). But the backlash has three of them, 1,6 liters (110, 136 hp) are added to the previous ones.

Engines

During its existence, different internal combustion engines (ICEs) were installed on the Opel Insignia during its existence, trying to improve handling without losing power. As a result, the manufacturer managed to achieve the goal, but there were too many variations on the secondary market.

The final characteristics of the engine depend not only on horsepower and other technical indicators. There is also a dependence on additional devices and units, so the second generation Opel Insignia will always be more powerful and better controlled than the first generation.

Comparison and popularity of engines

Since 2015, official sales of the Opel Insignia in Russia have ceased. But buyers did not want to forget such comfortable cars, so they still ply the secondary market and are privately imported from Europe.

Engine in Opel Insignia

All types of engines are popular in the primary and secondary market, but when considering, you can see different reasons:

  1. 1,6 liters (110, 136 hp) is too little power for a heavy Insignia, so it is taken rather out of desperation. Only this engine is included in the basic package, so the low-budget buyer has no choice (the next package is 100 thousand more expensive).
  2. 1,5 liters (140, 165 liters) - those who can afford it buy it. This is an ideal option for a family car - it can withstand all the loads, but does not require a lot of fuel. 165 hp version powered by diesel fuel, which increases economy.
  3. 2,0 liters (170, 260 hp) - these engines are taken much less often, they are for true lovers of speed. A complete set with such an engine is not only very expensive, its maintenance will cost no less. However, it is the most advantageous offer in the middle class, especially since it is supplemented with an automatic transmission.

The most popular are 165 liter engines - they are suitable for long journeys and for transporting heavy loads. But everyone chooses the option according to their own wallet, because the engine is complemented by various auxiliary functions. Also, in each configuration there are a number of options for passenger comfort and driving ease, which are also taken into account when choosing a model.
