Peugeot 4008 engines
Content
At the Geneva Motor Show in 2012, Peugeot, together with Mitsubishi, presented a novelty - the Peugeot 4008 compact crossover, which largely repeated the Mitsubishi ASX model, but with a different body design and equipment. He replaced the Peugeot 4007 model, which stopped rolling off the assembly line in the spring of that year.
The first generation of Peugeot 4008 crossovers was produced until 2017. Another similar model was produced under the Citroen brand. In Europe, three engines were installed on the Peugeot 4008: one petrol and two turbocharged diesels.
The modification with a gasoline engine had a CVT and all-wheel drive, while turbodiesels were equipped with a 6-speed manual gearbox and front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. For the Russians, a crossover was available only with a gasoline power unit.
The price of Peugeot 4008 for Russian buyers started from 1000 thousand rubles. Moreover, this was the basic equipment with two airbags, air conditioning, an audio system and heated front seats. They stopped selling this model in 2016, when its cost rose to 1600 thousand rubles.
The first generation Peugeot 4008 crossovers were discontinued in 2017. A total of 32000 machines of this model were produced.
The second generation of Peugeot 4008 SUVs began to roll off the assembly line in 2016, and it was intended only for sale in China and nowhere else. For their production, a joint venture was established in the city of Chengdu. The car has much in common with the European model Peugeot 3008, but with a wheelbase increased by 5,5 cm, which provided more space in the rear seats.
The car has two petrol turbocharged engines, a 6-speed Aisin automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. Peugeot 4008 model of the second generation is sold in China from $27000.
Engines of the first and second generation Peugeot 4008
Almost all engines installed on the Peugeot 4008 are distinguished by high technical and operational characteristics. The main information about them is shown in the table below.
engine's type | Fuel | Volume, l | Power, hp from. | Max. cool. moment, Nm | Generation |
R4, in-line, atmospheric | gasoline | 2,0 | 118-154 | 186-199 | first |
R4, inline, turbo | gasoline | 2,0 | 240-313 | 343-429 | first |
R4, inline, turbo | diesel fuel | 1,6 | 114-115 | 280 | first |
R4, inline, turbo | diesel fuel | 1,8 | 150 | 300 | first |
R4, inline, turbo | gasoline | 1,6 l | 167 | second | |
R4, inline, turbo | gasoline | 1,8 l | 204 | second |
Atmospheric engines of the 4V11 (G4KD) brand with distributed injection and a timing chain drive had an electronic control system for valve timing and valve lift MIVEC. They spend 10,9-11,2 liters of gasoline per hundred kilometers of the route.
The same unit, but turbocharged, structurally almost does not differ from the atmospheric version, except for the presence of a turbine powered by exhaust gases. Due to this, its fuel consumption is lower and amounts to 9,8-10,5 liters per hundred kilometers of distance traveled.
The diesel 1,6-liter turbocharged engine has the lowest fuel consumption among the entire range of engines installed on the Peugeot 4008, it spends only 5 liters per hundred kilometers in city mode and 4 liters on the highway. This figure is slightly higher for the 1,8-liter turbodiesel - 6,6 and 5 liters, respectively.
The leader among the Peugeot 4008 engine family
Undoubtedly, this is the 4V11 gasoline engine, which has two versions: atmospheric and turbocharged. In addition to the Peugeot 4008, this internal combustion engine is also installed on other models of this family of cars, as well as on cars of other brands:
- Citroen C4 Aircross;
- Mitsubishi (Lancer, Outlander HEV, Outlander, Lancer Ralliart, Lancer Evolution, ASX/RVR);
- Hyundai (Sonata, ix35, Elantra);
- Kia (Sportage, Optima, Cerato);
- Jeep (Patriot, Compass);
- Dodge (Caliber, Avenger);
- Chrysler Sebring;
- Proton Inspire.
What power plant do you prefer?
4V11 engines are not only the most common among the entire family of power plants that Peugeot 4008 crossovers are equipped with, but also the most preferred by customers. This is partly due to the fact that they are available in two versions: atmospheric and turbocharged.
But the main thing is the advantages of this motor:
- high traction and excellent throttle response;
- high operational resource from 250 thousand km, and with major repairs about one million km;
- the possibility of tuning mechanically and by installing a supercharger.
According to users, it proved to be quite reliable and without any problems with a power drive. For maintenance and overhaul of this motor, especially atmospheric, complex fixtures and special tools are not required, so work can be done on your own in a garage.
