Peugeot 806 engines

Peugeot 806 was first presented to the general public at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1994. The serial production of the model began in March of the same year. The vehicle was designed and developed by the Sevel production association (Lancia, Citroen, Peugeot and Fiat). The engineers of these companies have worked on the creation of a one-volume station wagon with increased capacity.

The car was created as a multi-purpose vehicle for the whole family. Peugeot 806 had a large convertible interior. Fully equipped with all the seats, the car could accommodate up to 8 passengers. The flat and smooth floor of the saloon made it possible to reconfigure the interior and turn the Peugeot-806 into a mobile office or sleeping unit.

The ergonomics of the driver's seat was well developed. A high ceiling and a height-adjustable seat allowed people up to 195 cm tall to comfortably sit behind the wheel of a car. The gear selector integrated into the front panel and the parking brake to the left of the driver allowed specialists to create comfortable conditions for moving around the cabin from the front row of seats.

For 1994, an original engineering solution was the introduction of rear sliding doors of the coupe type into the design of the car (the width of the doorway is about 750 mm). This made it easier for passengers to board the 2nd and 3rd rows of seats, as well as facilitate their disembarkation in dense city traffic.

Of the design features, one can single out a power steering, dependent on the speed of the internal combustion engine. That is, when driving along straight sections of the road at significant speeds, the driver will feel some significant effort on the steering wheel. But when performing parking maneuvers, the car's handling will be light and responsive.

What engines were installed on different generations of cars

From 1994 to 2002, minivans could be purchased with both gasoline engines and diesel power units. In total, 806 engines were installed on the Peugeot-12:

All power plants were aggregated with 3 gearboxes:

  • Two mechanical 5-speed manual transmissions (MESK and MLST).
  • One automatic 4-speed gearbox with classic hydromechanical transformer and Lock-up function for all gears (AL4).

Both mechanical and automatic transmissions have a sufficient margin of safety and reliability. With a timely oil change, a 4-speed automatic can not cause difficulties to the owner of the vehicle for several hundred thousand kilometers.

What engines are most widespread

Among the abundance of engines that were installed on the Peugeot 806, three engines were most widely used in Russia and the CIS countries:

  • 1,9 turbo diesel with 92 horsepower.
  • 2 liter atmospheric gasoline engine with 16 valves with a capacity of 123 horsepower.
  • 2,1 l. turbocharged diesel internal combustion engine with a capacity of 110 hp

Experienced owners of the 806th advises to purchase a vehicle only with a manual gearbox. Despite the relatively high reliability of the automatic transmission, it is not able to provide sufficient dynamics for a car with a total curb weight of 2,3 tons.

Which engine is better to choose a car

When choosing a Peugeot 806, you should pay attention to diesel modifications of the car. Models with a 2,1 liter engine are very popular in the secondary market. The engine with the XUD11BTE index provides the vehicle with satisfactory dynamics, as well as good traction at low and medium speeds. At the same time, the internal combustion engine has low fuel consumption (in the combined cycle, not more than 8,5 l / 100 km with a moderate driving style).

With a timely oil change, the engine can work up to 300-400 tons. Km. Despite the high, especially by the standards of modern engines, the durability of the unit has a number of design features that you should pay close attention to during its operation:

  • 1) Low location of the expansion tank. When a part is damaged, a large amount of coolant is lost. As a result, the engine overheats and, at best, the cylinder block gasket is damaged.
  • 2) Fuel filter. Due to the low quality of fuel in the CIS countries, it is extremely important to change the fuel filter in a timely manner. Don't skimp on this detail.
  • 3) Filter glass. The part is made of fragile material and very often breaks during maintenance.
  • 4) Engine oil quality. The Peugeot 806 engine is demanding on the quality of the oil. The slightest discrepancy, in this case, will immediately affect the operation of the hydraulic lifters.

Of the chronic "diseases" can be distinguished oil leakage from the high pressure fuel pump. On engines 2,1 liters. Lucas Epic rotary injection pumps are installed. The malfunction is eliminated by replacing the repair kit.
