It is important to always monitor the condition of the timing belt, as if it breaks, the valves can bend. It is best to check the belt every 50 thousand kilometers. Such a frequent check is due to the lack of a hydraulic compensator.
The Peugeot TU3JP motor exists in two varieties KFW or KFX. They both belong to the TU3 series. A similar unit was produced for several years, until 2006. In this model, it is necessary to replace the timing belt every 100 thousand kilometers.
One of the most common French engine failures is head gasket damage. This causes oil to enter the cooling system or leak out. Sometimes the upper lambda probe fails, and when traveling long distances, the exhaust pipe may crack.
