Renault Fluence engines

Renault Fluence is a compact family car that belongs to the C + golf class. He replaced the Renault Megane and tightly occupied the Eastern European market. The car does not have a wide range of engines under the hood. Officially, cars are delivered to Russia exclusively with gasoline power units. For other countries, there are diesel versions of Renault Fluence.

Brief description Renault Fluence

The Renault Fluence concept car was unveiled on June 4, 2004 at the Louis Vuitton Classic in England. PAX tires specially developed by Michelin were installed on the car. The car received Valeo LED headlights, which have the ability to automatically adjust depending on the position of the steering wheel. The car had a four-seat coupe body.

The first generation Renault Fluence was presented at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show. The car is built on the Nissan C platform, which is also used by the third generation Renault Megane. The start of sales in Russia began in April 2010. The car was characterized by a comfortable interior with comfortable seats with developed lateral support.

In 2012 Renault Fluence was restyled. The car received two configuration options. The range of engines used has changed slightly. Renault Fluence has daytime running lights accentuated in chrome and black. Also, the changes affected:

  • Renault logo located on the grille;
  • digital instrument panel;
  • interior trim;
  • on-board computer.

At the moment, Renault announced the development of the second generation Fluence. As a base lies the fourth generation Renault Megane. Cars vary slightly in size. Fluence will receive a richer interior trim.

Overview of engines on various generations of cars

Renault Fluence does not have a wide range of powertrains. In Europe, the car is equipped with gasoline and diesel engines. Only cars that need gasoline are supplied to the domestic market. You can get acquainted with the list of used internal combustion engines on Renault Fluence in the table below.

Popular motors

In Europe, the K9K diesel engine is popular on the Renault Fluence. A car with this engine is not officially delivered to Russia. The K9K engine has stood the test of time. It has a cast iron cylinder block and a timing belt drive.

Among the cars that are supplied to the domestic market, Renault Fluence with the K4M engine has gained popularity. This engine is used throughout the production of the car. The motor is considered basic, as it has the smallest power among all power units. The engine has been time-tested, it is reliable, but it can worry about little things. The internal combustion engine has problems with electronics, sensors, and there are also coolant smudges.

The popular M4R engine is installed on the top versions of Renault Fluence. The power unit was designed by specialists from the Nissan concern. The motor has an aluminum block for four cylinders with an open cooling jacket. A chain is used to drive the timing. The motor needs periodic adjustment of the thermal clearances of the valves, since hydraulic compensators are not provided in its design.

Which engine is better to choose Renault Fluence

If it is possible to buy a diesel version of Renault Fluence, it is recommended to take a closer look at a car with a K9K engine. It is economical and reliable. The power unit has good traction on the bottoms. The motor is very popular, so there will be no problems finding new and used spare parts.

With a limited budget, the Renault Fluence with the K4M engine is the best choice. The motor is reliable and unpretentious in operation. Its resource exceeds 500 thousand km. The engine is not very sensitive to fuel quality. However, during operation, minor breakdowns may occur:

  • leakage of oil or antifreeze;
  • crackling on an unheated engine;
  • power drop due to the need to clean the nozzles;
  • air intake through the intake manifold.

If you want to own a car with a flagship engine, it is recommended to opt for Renault Fluence with a top-end M4R engine. The power unit has a volume of 2.0 liters. All friction parts of the internal combustion engine are carefully processed, which makes it possible to achieve low internal resistance. It should be borne in mind that the engine is afraid of overheating. They can lead to deformations and cracking of the cylinder head.

Reliability of engines and their weaknesses

The weak point of the K4M engine is the timing drive. The belt often does not withstand the allotted service life. It is not uncommon for it to lose teeth or break. This causes the pistons to hit the valves. After that, it is possible to eliminate the consequences only through a major overhaul.

For the K9K diesel, the weak point is the liners. They wear out quickly, so they can turn over even with a run of 60-70 thousand km. Their resource directly depends on the quality of the oil and compliance with the timing of its replacement. Experienced car owners recommend changing the liners during each internal combustion engine overhaul to prevent serious consequences.

Fuel injectors of diesel engines do not withstand domestic fuel. They coke up quickly. Spray pattern changes. This leads to a drop in engine power and an increase in fuel consumption.

With serious runs, wear of the friction pairs of the CPG appears. As a result, the gap between the piston and the cylinder increases. A progressive maslozher appears. The compression is reduced and the power of the internal combustion engine drops.
