Skoda Octavia engines

The first Octavia was shown to consumers in 1959.

The car was as simple as possible, with a reliable body and chassis. At that time, the quality, characteristics and capabilities of the car were awarded many prizes and the car was delivered to several continents. The model was produced until 1964 and replaced it with the 1000 MB station wagon model, which was produced until 1971.

The car is considered one of the best in class "C" in Europe and is the most successful development. Octavia is supplied almost all over the world and is in great demand. In all generations, power plants have changed and the technical component has been significantly modified, which is why the car has a large range of engines.

At the moment, Skoda is applying the advanced developments of Volkswagen. The machine systems are distinguished by high reliability, thoughtfulness and quality. Engines can work for a very long time without any problems.

First generation

Again, Octavia was introduced in 1996, and it was put into production a year later. The new model, which the company produced under the control of Volkswagen, was of high quality and attractive price, so consumers immediately liked it. Initially there was a hatchback, and two years later there was a station wagon. It was based on a platform derived from the Golf IV, but the Octavia is significantly larger than other cars in its class. The model had a large trunk, but there was little space for the second row. The car was available in Classic, Ambiente and Elegance trim levels. Engines for Octavia were supplied from German Audi and Volkswagen: injection gasoline and diesel, there were turbocharged models. In 1999, they demonstrated all-wheel drive station wagons, and a year later, hatchbacks with a 4-Motion system. Only the most powerful turbodiesels and gasoline engines were installed on these models. In 2000, a facelift was made and the model was updated inside and out. A year later, they demonstrated the all-wheel drive RS.

The second generation

In 2004, the manufacturer introduced the second generation of the model, which began to use advanced technologies: direct injection into the engine, multi-link suspension, robotic gearbox. The car has completely changed the front part, partly the interior. After the appearance of the hatchback, they began to offer station wagons, including all-wheel drive, to consumers. There were six engines in the line - two diesel and four petrol. Their location in the car is transverse, the front wheels are driven. From the previous version got two petrol engines and one turbodiesel engine. They added two gasoline engines from Volkswagen and a turbodiesel. They came with 5 and 6 speed manuals. An option was a 6-speed robotic automatic transmission, it came only with a turbodiesel. The car was also offered in three versions, like the previous generation.

In 2008, the second generation was restyled - the appearance of the car became more presentable, harmonious and stylish. The dimensions have been increased, the interior has become more spacious, the interior has changed, a large trunk. In this version, the manufacturer offered a large selection of engines - turbocharged, economical and with good traction. Some engines could be equipped with a dual clutch and an automatic 7-speed gearbox. In other cases, only a mechanical five-day box was offered. In Russia, Ambient and Elegance configuration models were implemented. Particular attention was paid to the safety of the car. Models were offered in station wagon and hatchback versions, including sports versions, and the station wagon additionally had an all-wheel drive modification, the RS version became more expressive, with a dual clutch and a 6-speed gearbox.

Third Generation

The third generation was shown in 2012. For it, a lightweight MQB platform manufactured by the VW Group was used. The model went into production in 2013: the dimensions and wheelbase were increased, but the car itself became lighter. Externally, the model has become even more solid and respectable, the corporate style of the company is used. The rear part has not changed much, the interior and trunk have been increased in size, the general interior architecture has remained the same, but it is evolutionary in nature, better and more expensive materials have been used. The manufacturer offers customers eight options for internal combustion engines - diesel and gasoline, but not all of them will be presented on the Russian market. Each unit meets Euro 5 standards. Three options are diesel engines with the Greenline system, four petrol engines, including turbocharged ones. Gearboxes: mechanics 5 and 6-speed and 6 and 7-speed company-made robots. It was produced until 2017, after which the next modernization and restyling of the car was carried out - this model is still being produced today.

For a number of engines, it is possible to carry out chip tuning and change software control. This allows you to increase the flexibility and power of the unit. These changes can be both positive and negative. Chip tuning also makes it possible to remove software restrictions and limits. In addition, certain modifications can be made to some engines, and other models of Skoda engines can be installed on the cars themselves.

All engines are highly reliable, although they have a number of characteristic problems. Skoda motors have good maintainability rates, they can cover a long distance without major or complex repairs. Sometimes they may break the tightness of the tubes or get off the injection angle. Often the nozzles and pump break down, so they need to be replaced. If this is not done, then the engine will start slowly, troit, its power will decrease and fuel consumption will increase. Pistons or cylinders break less often, compression decreases, the cylinder head becomes chipped and cracked, which leads to antifreeze leakage. Old models of engines that have exhausted their resource are characterized by increased oil consumption. Replacing any parts gives only a temporary result; it is necessary to overhaul the power unit.

Car owners call the turbocharged 1,8 L for the Octavia Tour the ideal engine, which made it one of the most reliable models in the first generation.

Its advantages are considered to be large volume, endurance, service life, trouble-free turbine, reliable connection between gearbox and engine, simple gearbox, high power, low fuel consumption. This engine was produced almost unchanged for 10 years. But this modification was one of the most expensive at that time, so it did not receive much distribution, although it was also installed on Volkswagen cars (Golf, Bora and Passat).

The second most reliable is considered to be 2.0 FSI for Octavia A5 - atmospheric, 150 hp, boosted, 2 liter, automatic or mechanic. The power of the motor is better felt on the mechanics, a hardy unit with a service life of more than 500 thousand km without any breakdowns, major repairs and not the highest quality service. The downside is high fuel consumption, but in FSI mode on the highway, this figure drops to a minimum. Using well-known technologies, the company was able to create a revolutionary internal combustion engine, which began to be used in 2006.

In third place is 1.6 MPI, which was used on all generations of cars. Often he acted as a basic configuration. It is worth noting that Volkswagen has been using this engine since 1998 after modernization for all its passenger cars. Differs in simplicity and durability, the checked reliable technologies are used. In Skoda for the A5, the unit was lightened, slightly changed and modernized, after which some problems appeared, and in some cases it was impossible to carry out a major overhaul. Engineers were able to reduce fuel consumption to 7,5 liters, improved dynamics at low power. Problems with the motor begin after 200 thousand kilometers. On the A7, this engine is offered as the cheapest, it has been slightly upgraded to make it cheaper, but the problems remain.

Skoda Octavia A7 2017

For the A7, diesel engines are the best, among which 143 powerful 2-liter TDI are especially noted. It has incredible power and potential, it has excellent technical characteristics. A robotic TDI box is installed, which allows you to reduce fuel consumption - 6,4 in the city. It is still difficult to talk about its reliability, since it is installed only on the latest Skoda Octavia models.
