Suzuki K-series engines

The Suzuki K-series gasoline engine series has been produced since 1994 and during this time has acquired a huge number of different models and modifications.

The Suzuki K-series family of gasoline engines has been assembled by the Japanese concern since 1994 and is installed on almost the entire model range of the company from the Alto baby to the Vitara crossover. This line of motors is conditionally divided into three different generations of power units.

First generation Suzuki K-series engines

In 1994, Suzuki introduced the first powertrain of its new K family. They have multiport fuel injection, an aluminum cylinder block with cast iron liners and an open cooling jacket, a DOHC head without hydraulic lifters, and a timing chain drive. There were three or four cylinder engines, as well as turbocharged modifications. Over time, most of the engines in the line received a VVT phase regulator on the intake shaft, and the latest versions of such units were used as part of a hybrid power plant.

The first line included seven different engines, two of which had supercharged versions:

3-cylinder

0.6 liters 12V (658 cm³ 68 × 60.4 mm)
K6A ( 37 - 54 hp / 55 - 63 Nm ) Suzuki Alto 5 (HA12), Wagon R 2 (MC21)

0.6 turbo 12V (658 cm³ 68 × 60.4 mm)
K6AT ( 60 – 64 hp / 83 – 108 Nm ) Suzuki Jimny 2 (SJ), Jimny 3 (FJ)

1.0 liters 12V (998 cm³ 73 × 79.4 mm)
K10B (68 hp / 90 Nm) Suzuki Alto 7 (HA25), Splash 1 (EX)

4-cylinder

1.0 liters 16V (996 cm³ 68 × 68.6 mm)
K10A ( 65 – 70 hp / 88 Nm ) Suzuki Wagon R Solio 1 (MA63)

1.0 turbo 16V (996 cm³ 68 × 68.6 mm)
K10AT ( 100 HP / 118 Nm ) Suzuki Wagon R Solio 1 (MA63)

1.2 liters 16V (1172 cm³ 71 × 74 mm)
K12A ( 69 hp / 95 Nm ) Suzuki Wagon R Solio 1 (MA63)

1.2 liters 16V (1242 cm³ 73 × 74.2 mm)
K12B (91 hp / 118 Nm) Suzuki Splash 1 (EX), Swift 4 (NZ)

1.4 liters 16V (1372 cm³ 73 × 82 mm)
K14B (92 – 101 hp / 115 – 130 Nm) Suzuki Baleno 2 (EW), Swift 4 (NZ)

1.5 liters 16V (1462 cm³ 74 × 85 mm)
K15B (102 – 106 hp / 130 – 138 Nm) Suzuki Ciaz 1 (VC), Jimny 4 (GJ)

Second generation Suzuki K-series engines

In 2013, the Suzuki concern introduced an updated internal combustion engine of the K line, and two types at once: the Dualjet atmospheric engine received a second injection nozzle and an increased compression ratio, and the Boosterjet supercharged unit, in addition to the turbine, was equipped with a direct fuel injection system. In all other respects, these are the same three-four-cylinder engines with an aluminum block, DOHC cylinder head without hydraulic lifters, timing chain drive and VVT inlet dephaser. As always, it was not without hybrid modifications of the internal combustion engine, which are very popular in Europe and Japan.

The second line included four different engines, but one of them in two versions:

3-cylinder

1.0 Dualjet 12V (998 cm³ 73 × 79.4 mm)
K10C ( 68 hp / 93 Nm ) Suzuki Celerio 1 (FE)

1.0 Boosterjet 12V (998 cm³ 73 × 79.4 mm)
K10CT ( 99 - 111 hp / 150 - 170 Nm ) Suzuki SX4 2 (JY), Vitara 4 (LY)

4-cylinder

1.2 Dualjet 16V (1242 cm³ 73 × 74.2 mm)

K12B (91 hp / 118 Nm) Suzuki Splash 1 (EX), Swift 4 (NZ)
K12C ( 91 hp / 118 Nm ) Suzuki Baleno 2 (EW), Swift 5 (RZ)

1.4 Boosterjet 16V (1372 cm³ 73 × 82 mm)
K14C ( 136 – 140 hp / 210 – 230 Nm ) Suzuki SX4 2 (JY), Vitara 4 (LY)

Third generation Suzuki K-series engines

In 2019, new K-series motors appeared under the strict Euro 6d environmental standards. Such units already exist only as part of a 48-volt hybrid installation of the SHVS type. As before, both naturally aspirated Dualjet engines and Boosterjet turbo engines are offered.

The third line so far includes only two motors, but it is still in the process of expansion:

4-cylinder

1.2 Dualjet 16V (1197 cm³ 73 × 71.5 mm)
K12D ( 83 hp / 107 Nm ) Suzuki Ignis 3 (MF), Swift 5 (RZ)

1.4 Boosterjet 16V (1372 cm³ 73 × 82 mm)
K14D ( 129 hp / 235 Nm ) Suzuki SX4 2 (JY), Vitara 4 (LY)
