First generation
Production of the first generation of the car began in 1998. Toyota Sienna replaced the Previa model, which was very popular among fans of minibuses for long trips. However, this vehicle had a big drawback - for such a large and heavy body, an engine with only four cylinders was installed. A non-standard installation of a V-shaped six-cylinder engine is not possible, since the four-cylinder engine was installed under the car.
As a result, the Japanese company Toyota decided to design a new minibus with a 3-liter gasoline engine installed under the hood, with six cylinders arranged in a V-shape. This engine installation is borrowed from a very popular model in the North American market - Camry. Paired with this power unit is a four-speed automatic transmission.
One of the main advantages of the first generation Toyota Sienna is its smooth ride and good handling. The exterior of the car boasts a calm design with smooth lines. In those years, such features were inherent in all Toyota cars.. There is a lot of space in the cabin space, thanks to which all passengers could feel very comfortable. On the dashboard, all the keys are made in a simple and clear style, which makes driving a car very convenient.

It is also worth noting that all seats fold easily and you can get a huge space for transporting bulky goods. As a motor unit, a 3-liter power unit operating on the DOHC system was used. It has 6 cylinders arranged in a V-shape and 24 valves.
He received the index 1MZ-FE. Cars produced from 1998 to 2000 developed 194 hp. After some improvements, engine power increased to 210 hp. This became possible due to the fact that the moment of opening and closing of the valves was carried out variable. The timing mechanism was driven by a toothed belt.
The second generation
The second generation of the Toyota Sienna was shown to the public in January 2003. The venue for the presentation was the Detroit Auto Show. The seat, located in the center, was installed either flush with the rest, or pushed a little forward in order to increase space for the passengers of the last row. All seats have a folding function, and, if desired, it can be easily dismantled and removed from the car. With a full set of seats, the luggage compartment has a volume of 1,24 cubic meters, and if you fold the last row of seats, this figure will increase to 2,68 cubic meters.
In the new generation, the steering wheel was adjusted both in reach and in tilt angle. The gear lever was now located on the center console. Depending on the configuration, the car was equipped with cruise control, with an automatic distance support system between vehicles, an audio system with radio, cassettes and CDs, which was controlled by the keys on the steering wheel or remote control.
It was also possible to install a DVD player with a screen for the second row of seats.
The electrified sliding doors with sliding windows were controlled using buttons located in the cabin or on the key fob. To adjust the temperature and airflow strength of the second and third row of seats, there are special control buttons.
The first engine that was installed on this car was a 3.3-liter gasoline engine., with a power of 230 hp For the first time, this car could be purchased with an all-wheel drive system. In 2006, the standards for carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere were tightened, and as a result, the company had to reduce the power of the vehicle to 215 hp.
The 2007 models were equipped with a new six-cylinder petrol engine. The new motor has camshafts that are driven by a chain. This ICE is capable of developing a power of 266 hp.
Third Generation
The latest generation of this model began to be produced in 2001. Throughout the entire period of release, it was gradually refined and changed in appearance. However, significant restyling was made only in 2018. In the design of the car there are familiar, for all modern Toyota cars, pointed lines.
The headlights of the head optics have an elongated shape, and they also contain lens elements and LED sections. The radiator grille is small in size with two horizontal chrome trims and the logo of the Japanese automobile concern. The front bumper is huge. In its center is the same large-sized air intake. Small fog lights are installed on the edges of the bumper.
Despite a large number of innovations, one thing remains unchanged - Toyota Sienna has a large size and three rows of seats. The length of the restyled version is 509 cm, width 199 cm, height 181 cm. The wheelbase is 303 cm, and the ground clearance is 15,7 cm. These indicators make this family minivan a representative of cars that move only on asphalt. It holds the road well at high speeds and is able to overcome the height of a high city curb, but on the roads the Sienna will be completely useless.
