The Toyota RAV 4 first appeared on the world market in 1994. But at first, the novelty did not impress the automotive community. Other manufacturers of auto equipment generally considered it a perversion of abstruse islanders. But after a few years, they enthusiastically began to establish the production of similar machines. This happened because Toyota engineers designed a car that combined the advantages of many models.
Generation I (05.1994 — 04.2000)
In the original version, the car body had three doors, and since 1995 they began to produce 5-door bodies, which were most widely used in Russia.
The car was equipped with both a four-speed automatic and a five-speed manual transmission, and had either front- or all-wheel drive (4WD) in various trim levels. Among the line of power units there was no diesel. Toyota Rav 4 engines of the first generation were only petrol:
- 3S-FE, volume 2.0 l, power 135 hp;
- 3S-GE, volume 2.0 l, power 160-180 hp
Excellent technical characteristics were combined in them with good fuel economy - 10 l / 100 km.
Generation II (05.2000 — 10.2005)
In 2000, the Japanese company began work on the creation of the second generation RAV 4. The new model received a more stylish appearance and improved interior, which became more spacious. The second generation toyota rav 4 engines (DOHC VVT gasoline) had a volume of 1,8 liters. and a performance of 125 hp. (designation 1ZZ-FE). At the beginning of 2001, 1AZ-FSE engines (volume 2.0 l, power 152 hp) with the D-4D index appeared on some models.
Generation III (05.2006 — 01.2013)
The third generation RAV4 machines were demonstrated at an exhibition in Frankfurt, Germany at the end of 2005. The three-door body version is no longer supported. The car can now be equipped with a powerful 2.4 liter engine with 170 hp. (2AZ-FE 2.4 VVT gasoline) or a modified two-liter gasoline with 148 hp. (3ZR-FAE 2.0 Valvematic).
Generation IV (02.2013)
Visitors to the Los Angeles Motor Show in November 2012 could see the presentation of the next generation RAV4. The fourth generation car has become wider by 30 mm, but somewhat shorter (55 mm) and lower (15 mm). This changed the design towards dynamism. The base engine remained old - a 150 horsepower 2-liter gasoline unit. (marking 3ZR-FE). But it became possible to complete the car with a 2.5 liter engine with 180 hp. (2AR-FE gasoline), as well as a 150 hp diesel engine. (2AD-FTV).
The cost of a new RAV4 car in the Russian market fluctuates around the mark of 1 million rubles. This is not affordable for everyone. Therefore, sellers can offer a car in which a Toyota Rav 4 contract engine is installed at a much lower price. This is the name of a used engine received from Japan, the USA or Europe. The resource of the Toyota Rav 4 engine in most cases is very decent and you should not immediately refuse such an offer.
