Windshield wipers before winter - do not forget to change

When choosing wipers for our car, we must remember a few necessary steps. First of all, we must measure them at the beginning, given the specific version of the car model and its year. Adjustment is necessary, especially due to the different types of fasteners used in cars of this brand.

As for the functionality of the wipers themselves, regardless of whether they are there or not. Standard or flat wipers are used throughout the season - as a rule, they are not designed separately for this part of the season. To ensure proper wiper performance, we recommend changing the brushes twice a year.

Wiper blades, i.e. the rubber part of the wiper, which directly touches the glass surface, is best replaced in the fall due to increased rainfall. The use of wipers in relation to the number of kilometers traveled then increases significantly. During this period, the wipers clear the windshield per 100 kilometers traveled, on average 60 to 80 percent of the driving time. For comparison, in the summer it is only a few percent.

Which doesn't mean the wipers don't get damaged in hot weather. Not everyone knows that it is the summer period, when the rains occasionally take us by surprise, the most harmful in this regard. Why? We rarely use wipers, in very unfavorable conditions. We mainly use them to scrape off the remains of insects when working on a dry windshield, and this significantly damages the rubber edge. Therefore, in order to properly prepare for the difficult rainy season, it is recommended to change the rugs to “fresh” ones right now.

In autumn, the wipers work in much more favorable conditions, i.e. on a wet windshield, limiting rubber abrasion. Another change of them - for the winter - is not required. However, you should remember to eliminate other problems characteristic of the frosty season. Basically it is about the deposition of ice on the wipers. In this case, an effective procedure for "rescuing" rubber is to take the wipers away from the windshield at night.

Most wipers are versatile and can be used throughout the season. This applies to both flat and standard wipers. Quality flat wipers work better no matter the time of year. Thanks to a more stable angle of attack and stronger pressure, the wipers collect water better and run quieter due to better aerodynamics.

When preparing the car for operation, it is also worth considering the type of material from which the wiper blades are made. The cheapest ones are based only on rubber, which does not always give a satisfactory result. It is recommended to use nibs with an admixture of graphite. The presence of this component means that the wipers do not "squeak" when used. Thus, their consumption is significantly reduced.
