A Grenoble-based e-bike fleet management company has developed artificial intelligence that immobilizes a bike in the event of an attempted theft, detects breakdowns and makes maintenance easier.

Goal: Mass distribution of electric bicycles in cities.

Mael Bosson created eBikeLabs in 2015. At that time, he had already built his own electric bike and other models for friends. But he was forced to realize that these bicycles were often broken or stolen.

“I was shocked to learn that out of 18 Parisian Vélibes, every year… 000 are stolen! ” Firmly convinced that the electric bike is the future of the automobile, he founded eBikeLabs with Pierre-Louis Jourdan, Raphael Marguet and Cyrille Romera with the goal of "Accelerate the spread of public electric bicycles in cities."

Intelligent software that optimizes fleet management

The startup supports operators in the deployment of their shared or rented bike parks in cities around the world using innovative digital solutions. The latter will go on sale in early 2021 and will allow e-bike fleet operators to save an average of € 600 per bike per year on average thanks to three simple and smart services:

  • eBikeSafe, an electronic engine locking system that replaces padlocks and other mechanical hardware with software. The motor itself blocks the wheel of the bike when an intrusion is detected.
  • eBikeCheck : a platform and mobile application for service crews that identifies all the problems faced by bicycles. Foreseeing breakdowns, detecting abnormal activities and simplifying maintenance to optimize fleet management.
  • eBikeProfile : a platform and an application interconnected with the previous ones, which allows users to have a personalized experience: adaptation of assistance depending on pedaling, speed limit is applied automatically depending on the geographic area.

Artificial intelligence replaces the mechanical or electronic components of a bicycle, making it cheaper to buy and operate and making it more durable.

For mid-priced high-performance e-bikes

With this smart built-in software, eBikeLabs creates technologies that will enable high-performance mid-range bikes, even for heavy duty use. The project won the 2018 innovation competition organized by ADEME and BPI France, which allowed € 1,8 million to be invested in research and development over 2 years.

Today eBikeLabs is launching a new crowdfunding campaign open to everyone to industrialize the solution. For more information and project support, visit the Wiseed platform.
