EDC / EDC-K

Electronic Shock Absorber Control (EDC) reduces wheel load fluctuations, ensures excellent continuity between the wheels and the road surface, and ensures optimal body swing regardless of the load and road surface. By using Dynamic Driving Control (FDC), it is even possible to shorten the braking distance in the event of braking with ABS intervention. Your BMW combines maximum safety with maximum driving comfort.

To ensure optimal damping adjustment, certain sensors continuously monitor every movement of the vehicle, which affects driving behavior and ride comfort. All signals are processed by a microprocessor and transmitted as control signals to an actuator built into the shock absorber.

Then, special solenoid valves set the damping force needed to compensate for various road, cargo and road conditions. And the damping power is infinitely variable.

This can significantly reduce any swinging during braking or body movement caused, for example, by uneven road surfaces, turning or accelerating. In a wide variety of driving conditions, EDC optimally adjusts damping to provide superior ride comfort, optimum acoustics and maximum safety.

Not to be confused with Dynamic Drive active suspensions, also from BMW, which include their adoption.
