Effective ways to protect your motorcycle - choose the best one!

The darkest scenario in the motorcyclist's head is a suspicious guy with a hacksaw hanging around his car. And although this opinion is not very common, fear remains. It must be said bluntly that in our time, mounting a motorcycle is usually a reasonable thing. The adage “opportunity makes a thief” is very relevant in this matter.

Motorcycle guards - do they even work?

The risk of motorcycle "evaporation" due to the activities of an organized group is lower than in case of accidental theft. What is the conclusion? Unprotected cars are more likely to be targeted by thieves. If there were any locks on them, they would probably still please the eye of the owner. Motorcycle protection can be deciphered, cut, bypassed and even ignored.

What is important when installing such protection? Basically it's about the scope of security. The more of them, the longer it will take the thief to defeat them. This will discourage him from the very beginning.

Factory motorcycle anti-theft protection

Not only the motorcyclist should worry about the quality of protection. Motorcycle protection is of interest to manufacturers who use various methods to protect their designs put on the market. Mainly:

  • key;
  • the immobilizer.

It is based on a key that is supposed to lock the steering wheel of a parked two-wheeled vehicle.

Another type that is also used in passenger cars is the immobilizer. This patent is almost invisible until it breaks. The transponder is placed in or attached to the key. It is he who sends the code to the control unit connected to the ignition system to verify the authenticity of the key used to start the car.

Are basic motorcycle mounting methods sufficient?

Unfortunately, the options mentioned above are quite easy to hack. Until a random burglar is on the lookout for a particular item, upon seeing the immobilizer, two men with a small bus will pick up the motorcycle and load it onto a crate. For them, this is a quick action, after which decryption will take place somewhere in the workshop. So what additional security measures should be taken into account?

Motorcycle chain - simple and effective protection?

In the protective gear market, you can find a chain lock for your motorcycle.. What is it about? Usually a chain, wearing a suitable collar, is woven through the rim and attached to a fixed element of the landscape. So you get reliable protection. To break it, you need either a drill with a solid drill or an angle grinder.

Or maybe non-standard ideas for protecting a motorcycle?

Some decide on an unconventional method - a motorcycle safety chain directly from the DIY store. This solution has its advantages, because, first of all, it is much cheaper than the protection chain described earlier. But when it is weaved, you can easily damage the rim or other components.

The biggest downside to this solution is the weight. Everything is fine when the bike is secured, but where to hide such a heavy chain while traveling?

Motorcycle anti-theft lock

In this category are the so-called U-locks and disc locks. The first one has the shape of a horseshoe, i.e. similar to the letter "U". Installed between the leg (front suspension carrier tube) and the rim, or mounted on the wheel and attached to another fixed element.

Motorcycle wheel protection, i.e. disc lock

DiscLock is a motorcycle protection located in the brake disc. DiscLocks are attached to these elements because they have large holes and at the same time prevent them from slipping out freely. They block the wheel and prevent it from rolling. They are also associated with an acoustic signal.

In addition to the dimensions, and sometimes the inability to put on a motorcycle, such a solution can become an obstacle for the rider himself. Sometimes he can just forget that he put such a DiscLock on his steering wheel.

Motorcycle tracker - when can it be effective?

It can be concluded that no safety device is mechanically perfect. How to protect a motorcycle from theft in other ways? This is where a GPS locator comes in handy. Of course, it does not provide immediate protection and does not immediately deter a thief, but you can check the location of your two-wheeler on an ongoing basis.

A vehicle radar system can be even more effective, but it's just expensive.

Is a motorcycle lock the only way to protect yourself?

As we mentioned earlier, each of these defenses can be bypassed or destroyed in more or less complex ways. However, make sure you have at least one good quality guard for your bike. The vast majority of thefts are due to the deal and the forgetfulness of the owners, so a bike with good protection will not be easy prey.

Other ways to protect your motorcycle

What else will improve security? If you don't have your own garage, just leave your bike in a visible place. People hanging around the bike scare off thieves. Also try to keep an eye on your car, for example, from the window of your apartment.

The buzzer is a very good deterrent for hobbyists or unorganized bargain hunters. Often U-Lock or DiscLock is combined with an acoustic alarm that is very effective at deterring a thief as soon as he moves the car.

Motorcycle protection and visual condition of the two-wheeler

If you have already secured your car well, you can also worry about its appearance. Because such a not-so-smart thief is ready to knock over, kick or scratch your bike in retaliation for the theft fiasco. Sometimes a well-fitting lid does the trick. Also, don't forget about insurance.

Motorcycle protection comes in many forms. We hope that one of those described in the text will allow you to sleep peacefully. You won't have to worry so much about your precious bike.
