Electric Mazda MX-30 entered the conveyor

It has a friendly expression, and the interior design embodies the image of lightness.

Mazda unveiled its first production electric CX-30 based MX-30 on October 23 in Tokyo. It is equipped with the new e-Skyactiv drive system and e-GVC Plus steering system. However, the Japanese did not disclose the main characteristics of the crossover, while the media reported a power of 105-106 kW (143-144 hp, 265 Nm) and a range of 210 km with a battery capacity of 35,5 kWh. If the data is correct, we really have nothing to impress in terms of technology. The most notable detail is actually the Freestyle Doors' rear doors, as in the Mazda RX-8 Coupe and BMW i3 hatchback.

In terms of dimensions, the new model is expected to repeat the Mazda CX-30 (the e-TPV prototype was made from it): length, width, height - 4395 × 1795 × 1570 mm, wheelbase - 2655. However, due to the battery in the lower An additional 30 mm is added to the electric vehicle part. Tire size 215/55 R18.

In the name of the roadster MX-5 we find the abbreviation Mazda eXperimental. The crossover only experiments with doors: in the absence of a central column, the front doors open at an angle of 82 °, the rear doors open at 80 °. This makes entry/exit and loading/unloading easier.

The e-Skyactiv system includes a motor, battery, inverter, DC / DC converter and single speed gearbox, combined with a powerful unit that is installed in the front of the car and is reliably protected from possible damage. A battery with a cooling device is located under the floor, charged by soldering stations in accordance with CHAdeMO and CCS standards, but does not ignore variables (up to 6,6 kW). Mazda also prides itself on developing a unique accelerator pedal, but this is about conventional energy recovery from braking force (see Nissan Leaf). The i-Activsense security system includes Smart Brake (SBS) with pedestrian and cyclist recognition.

The MX-30 specification is considered European. There were some traditional praises: the crossover is designed in the spirit of Car-as-Art (“car as art”), uses the design language Kodo and the concept of Human Modern, without forgetting the slogan Jinba ittai (“unity of the horse and rider”).

“The exterior is uncompromisingly simple to mark its beauty as a monolith. The face has a friendly expression, and the interior design embodies the image of lightness,” explains Yuchi Matsuda, chief designer of the project. "By living with the MX-30 every day, owners will find they meet themselves." The "square" wheel arches of the MX-30, which are reminiscent of the RAV4, are impressive. The collaboration with Toyota seems to be felt in the design.

To make the interior at least somehow different from the source of the CX-30, the owner will be able to "plunge into his own world", the console is installed on a pedestal. The layout uses environmentally friendly materials: fibers from recycled plastic bottles and cork from tree bark.

The interior, characterized by simplicity and space, gave rise to the horizontal planning philosophy, which first brought Mazda a “floating console” (with a niche for storage below) and a seven-inch touch panel with an interactive interface for controlling the air conditioning system. The seat upholstery with new fabric (a mixture of textiles and recycled plastic) should be soft to the touch and “breathable”, as if the fibers were filled with air. In the trunk, as they say, there are four suitcases 115 cm long. There are little things under the floor ... Now we are waiting for the official specifications and the start of sales in 2020.
