Electric motorcycle: Energica introduces a revolutionary motor

The Italian sports electric motorcycle company Energica is making a comeback with a new generation of engines that are more powerful and more compact.

Alliance with Mavel

For the needs of this new project, the Italian manufacturer has teamed up with Mavel, a company from the same country. Based in Pont-Saint-Martin, Valle d'Aosta, this young company specializes in the research, development and manufacture of automotive electronics. Thus, she is working on a two-wheeled vehicle project for the first time.

The duo developed a new 126 kW motor known as EMCE (Energica Mavel Co-Engineering). This new unit offers almost 18% more peak power than the model currently used by Energica. The engine also has patented sensors that can store operating data to predict possible failures.

Easier and more efficient!

In addition to increasing power, both companies have been able to lighten the engine and controller, which has reduced the weight of the electric motorcycle by 10 kg.

EMCE features innovative rotor and stator geometries that reduce energy losses and increase productivity. Along with the EMCE liquid cooling system, Energica claims this new rotor creates an internal airflow that transfers more heat from the engine. This process allows the engine to perform much better even when the electric motorcycle is moving at high speeds.

These various improvements will also allow motorcycles equipped with EMCE to increase the range by 5-10% (depending on the driving style of their users).

Original Release Date Ahead!

Although there have been large delays in all areas for a large number of projects due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this new engine is coming out ahead of its original launch date!

« The EMCE market launch was originally planned for 2022. Nevertheless, we decided to anticipate this date, and in just one semester we managed to develop a joint development in partnership with Mavel.“Recently explained Giampiero Testoni, CTO of Energica, in an interview. ” From now on, every electric motorcycle we manufacture will be equipped with this new engine and its transmission. "It is completed.
