Electric bike: Bafang opens a factory in Poland
China's Bafang Group, a manufacturer of motors and components for electric bicycles, has just opened its first production site outside of China. Based in Wroclaw, Poland, this allows the group to move closer to European demand and shorten delivery times.
From “made in China” to “made in Europe” ... still focused on local production, more and more Asian groups want to establish themselves in Europe. This is the case of the Chinese Bafang, which has just opened its new production site in Poland. This plant, located in Wroclaw, is of particular importance as it is the first industrial site set up by the group outside of China.
In practice, the site will support the production of e-bike motors, focusing on the best-selling models in Europe: the M400, M420 and M300 crank motors, which will be split into two assembly lines.
Annual production of 600.000 units in three years
During the first year, Bafang plans to produce up to 150.000 training units, which will be used to equip the models of its various European partners. In the next three years, the group's goal is to increase production to 600.000 units per year.
The plant, covering more than 6000 m², represents an investment of 16 million euros. It will initially employ 50 people.
Reduce delays
For Bafang, this first European plant is primarily aimed at reducing delivery times for its European customers. ” Typically, the purchase time for Asian orders from order to delivery is approximately six months. The delivery time for goods outside Poland will be reduced to four months. Said Qinghua Wang, CEO of Bafang. “We are already planning a gradual reduction to two months in the future,” he added.
