Electric bike: Bafang unveils its new 43-volt batteries at Eurobike

One of China's major e-bike component manufacturers, Bafang has just announced the launch of a new battery line at Eurobike.

While it seems that nothing can stop the growth of the electric bike market, competition between suppliers is raging. Yamaha, Shimano, Bosch, Sachs ... everyone should race to offer even more efficient engines and batteries. This is the case of the Chinese Bafang, which is showcasing its new battery line at Eurobike. Waterproof and partially integrated into the frame, it is available in two versions: 450 and 600 Wh for 3 and 4 kg weights respectively, and features an unprecedented operating voltage.

Configured for 43 V, the new batteries differ from the 36 and 48 V systems that are now standard for many manufacturers. A technical choice that the Chinese group justifies in several ways. In particular, Bafang considers the 48-volt configuration too high.

« A 43 volt battery only experiences 69% of the heat loss of a 36 volt system. In terms of efficiency, a 48 volt battery is even better at 59%, but has a drawback in terms of space utilization. »Explains the manufacturer. While the 48-volt battery is based on a 13-cell configuration, the 43-volt uses only 12. This simplifies package integration, especially on e-bikes where the battery is directly integrated into the frame.

increased security

Another argument put forward by Bafang is safety. The new waterproof battery packs from Bafang have been designed to meet the IPX6 standard and their "intelligent" temperature management limits any rise in cell temperature.

In terms of design, Bafang claims six protection schemes. “Cells only charge up to 4,1V instead of the standard 4,2V for most batteries, keeping them in a safer voltage range and extending battery life. »Approved by the manufacturer.
