Electric bike: Bafang launches new low-cost motor

The new M200 crank motor, aimed at city e-bikes and hybrid bikes, expands the entry-level Chinese manufacturer's offering.

Built from a blank sheet of paper, the new M200 uses a new combination of materials. The Bafang teams have worked hard to reduce the number of mechanical and electrical parts to keep costs down, but also weight, limited to 3,2kg.

In terms of performance, the new Bafang motor complies with legal requirements with a power limited to 250 watts. Compared to other entry-level systems, torque has also been increased to 65Nm, promising an electric mountain bike feel.

"Open" configuration

Not wanting to deprive itself of any outlet, Bafang offers an open configuration for its new engine. Interested bike manufacturers can use a variety of battery and controller systems offered by the brand, or components from other suppliers. Bafang provides its teams to support the integration.

The new Bafang M200 drive system is already in production. The first deliveries are expected in the second half of 2020.
