Electric scooters in Paris: Lime, Dott and TIER kept out of the city

The city of Paris selected Lime, Dott and TIER to operate self-service electric scooters on the streets of the capital for two years. The rest are asked to pack their bags ...

For the city of Paris, this decision follows the announcement of tenders published last December. This should allow better regulation of self-service devices in the capital by limiting the number of operators who are allowed to use them. Of the sixteen operators that responded to the market, only three were selected: American Lime, which recently took over the Jump fleet, French Dott, and Berlin-based startup TIER Mobility, which recently bought out Coup electric scooters.

Fleet of 15.000 electric scooters

In practice, each operator will be allowed to place up to 5.000 scooters each on the streets of the capital.

Currently, only Lime has reached this quota with 4.900 vehicles in operation. With 2300 and 500 self-service scooters, respectively, Dott and TIER have more headroom. They are expected to rapidly expand their fleet over the next few weeks.

Highlighted locations

In addition to regulating the number of operators present in the capital, the city of Paris also organizes parking for these cars.

« I encourage scooter users to respect pedestrians and traffic rules when traveling and to park in designated parking spaces: 2 dedicated parking spaces are being created throughout Paris. “, said Ms. Hidalgo, recently re-elected.

At the same time, other initiatives are being organized, such as Charge, which is experimenting with stations with multiple operators.

Bird on the side

If the three selected operators can freely use their scooters, the rest will have to leave the streets of the capital.

For the American bird, which has made a big bet on Paris, this is another blow. It's the same with Pony, who relied on his French ancestry to seduce the municipality.
