Bolt, considered one of Uber's main competitors in the VTC segment, has just deployed a fleet of 500 self-service electric bikes in Paris. Let's explain how it works.

In Paris, self-service is an activity with many ups and downs. While Uber recently announced the reintegration of Jump electric bikes into Lime, Bolt is also embarking on an adventure. Launched on July 1, 2020, the device of the Estonian company has 500 self-service electric bikes distributed in various districts of the capital.

How it works ?

Bolt electric bikes without fixed stations are offered in "free float". That is, they can be lifted and unloaded at any location specified by the operator. To find and reserve a car, you need to download the mobile app available for Android and iOS.

The available bicycles are shown on an interactive map. You can reserve a bike remotely for 3 minutes or go straight to the site and scan the QR code located on the handlebars.

Once the trip is over, all you have to do is click the End Trip button in the app. Warning: if you return the bike to the wrong area (marked in red in the app), you risk a € 40 fine.

How much is it ?

Cheaper than Jump at 15 cents per minute, Bolt costs 10 cents per minute. The price is also lower than that of self-service electric scooters, usually billed at 20 cents per minute.

Good news: a € XNUMX booking fee is offered during the launch phase!

What are the characteristics of a bicycle?

Easily recognizable by their green color, Bolt e-bikes weigh 22 kg.

If the operator does not specify the technical characteristics of the vehicles, he announces a speed of 20 km / h for assistance and a range of 30 km with a full tank. The mobile teams of the operator are responsible for charging and replacing the batteries.
