Elton John puts his 1997 Aston Martin up for auction

Elton John's old 1997 Aston Martin is up for auction. This powerful car has also been preserved in its original form.

Sir Elton John is selling his 1997 Vantage 8 Aston Martin.

Looks like Sir Elton John is about to retire. Hot on the heels of announcing his farewell world tour, Elton John is getting rid of his classic 1997 Vantage V8 550 Aston Martin, '90s-inspired mobile phone and everything else.

And Elton was also not too strict with the old woman. This Vantage has only 8663 miles on the odometer and is kept in perfect condition. It is expected to fetch between $265,400 and $335,250 when it's listed at the Silverstone Auctions Race Retro Classic Car Sale February 24-25.

This particular V8 Vantage 550 was hand-built at Aston Martin's Newport Pagnell factory by order of Elton John. He asked for a black body with matching leather interior, but was told they couldn't complete it with massive headlights to reflect his choice of sunglasses.

Even today, this 90s sports car is powerful. The heart of this car, powered by a 5.3-liter Eaton twin-supercharged V8 engine, produces about 550 horsepower and the same amount of pound-feet of torque. Zero to sixty is a clean 4.6 seconds, and its theoretical top speed is 191 mph. It's not like Elton has ever been that fast.

It is also a collector's item, with only 240 V550s ever produced. This Vantage will cost a fortune even without its famous former owner, but with Elton John at the wheel, the price is expected to skyrocket.

“Sir Elton is a global superstar and he still makes headlines around the world, so I am happy to offer this Aston Martin for sale, which he ordered new back in 1997,” he said. Adam Rutter, specialist in classic cars at the Silverstone auction.

“In addition to being celebrity-owned, this stunning V8 Vantage has been serviced regardless of cost and has only 8,663 miles on the clock. This is the equivalent of only driving about 400 miles a year.”
