The 1.6 i-DTEC diesel was introduced in 2013. as an answer to the needs of the question. The engine had to meet the Euro 6 standard and at the same time have low fuel consumption, which could not be achieved with the older 2,2-liter unit. In a sense, the 1.6 i-DTEC is the market successor to the Isuzu 1.7 unit, although it is, of course, a completely different, original Honda design.

The 1.6 i-DTEC has a modest 120 hp. and a pleasant 300 Nm. torque, but is characterized by high maneuverability and sensationally low fuel consumption (even below 4 l / 100 km for the Honda Civic). The larger Honda CR-V was also used. since 2015 sequential turbo bi-turbo variant. This version develops very good parameters - 160 hp. and 350 Nm. In practice, this means that the car is no less dynamic than the 2.2 i-DTEC version. In addition, drivers praise the bike for its high work culture.

Unfortunately this engine is very demanding in terms of operation. Its high precision workmanship hates sloppy maintenance. It is safest to use original parts of incomparably better quality than replacement parts. By the way, there are almost no substitutes. Although the manufacturer has provided for an oil change every 20 thousand. km is not recommended. Minimum service 10 thousand. km or once a year. Oil class C2 or C3 must have a viscosity of 0W-30. Afterburning the particulate filter is very important.

However, early versions of this single supercharged engine did not escape the misfortune that is like doom for the user. it axial play of the camshaftwhich – in case of repair – requires replacement of the entire head. Some users did this under warranty, but in a used car you can't count on it. One symptom is noise coming from the top of the engine. While this is still a relatively rare and little-known defect, it is not known what causes it, but there is a suspicion that it arose due to the poor quality of the material, which is a feature of Honda engines and other mechanisms. after 2010.

In addition, there are already complaints about malfunctions of the injection or exhaust gas treatment system. Unfortunately, one can only dream of replacing nozzles, as well as regeneration. It is easier to regenerate the DPF filter. If it does not burn out while driving, the oil can be diluted and thus in situations such as camshaft end play.

To buy or not to buy a car with a 1.6 i-DTEC engine? It is difficult to answer this question. If you find a block with a defect (if you can call it that initially), then it is disposable. The same applies to cars with high mileage. Repairs are so expensive that in practice it is unprofitable and it is better to replace the engine with a properly used one. The performance is reassuring. Combustion is a huge advantage of this design. Suffice it to mention that the average fuel consumption reported by users for a 120 hp Honda CR-V is 5,2 l/100 km!
