Engine Encyclopedia: Renault/Nissan 1.4 TCe (Petrol)

There are some engines that were too short to enjoy. One of them is the fruit of a collaboration between Renault and Nissan as the alliance has been dwindling. To this day, he is one of the most interesting petrol players of that period, but his career ended very quickly.

Designation TKe (Turbo Control Efficiency) is associated with downsizing, turbocharging and direct injection. However, even today, not every engine with this marking has direct injection. It's not the same as TSI for Volkswagen. That was the case in 1.4 TCe when he debuted in 2008 and had to retire in 2013. It was replaced by a reinforced 1.2 TCe with direct injection, which was just in development.

Although the history of 1.4 TCe is not long, the unit is by far one of the most interesting used Renault models. Not only because it is suitable for the assembly of autogas plants and does not consume much fuel, but also because of its good parameters, such as 130 hp. or torque 190 Nm. And while the 1.2 TCe's successor offered more of both, the Renault Megane, for example, has better performance since the 1.4.

Since this is a Nissan design, it's also not as polished as it would be if Renault itself had it. So what is it timing chain that can stretch, but only with careless oil maintenance. If the oil is changed every 10 thousand. km, such cases do not happen.

There are also no problems with excessive oil consumption or cylinder head gasket damageif the bike is in the good hands of a conscious user who knows that until the temperature is at the right level, the gas will not press down on the floor. If on the contrary, then any of the described breakdowns may occur, and in addition, the turbocharger may fail.

If the 1.4 TCe will run on gas, then installing a good system and temperature control is a must for trouble-free operation. There are engines on the market with a mileage of more than 200 thousand kilometers. km on gas and still drive without problems. It does not happen that you have to adjust the valves, which is not easy with the so-called system. with cup pushers.

Advantages of the 1.4 TCe engine:

  • Good parameters and fuel consumption
  • Relatively simple and inexpensive to maintain
  • Cooperation with LPG (indirect injection)

Disadvantages of the 1.4 TCe engine:

  • Quite delicate, so it needs care
  • Not resistant to overheating
