Energica wants to launch small electric motorcycles

So far, the Italian sports electric motorcycle brand Energica is working on a range of lighter vehicles.

The official supplier of electric motorcycles to the MotoE championship, Energica already announced its intention to enter the small electric motorcycle market last year. Associated with Dell'Orto, the manufacturer is working on a project called E-Power, aimed at developing small power plants designed for urban mobility.

When asked by Electrek, the Energica teams indicated that they have made good progress on the project. "The study, design, modeling and testing of components, which continued continuously even during containment, were completed and testing of the entire system began on the test bed." they indicated.

These new engines are significantly less powerful than the 107 kW currently used on Energica's electric sports bikes and range in power from 2,5 to 15 kW. If a higher power level could mean 125 electric motorcycles, then a lower one implies a small electric scooter equivalent to 50.

At the same time, the manufacturer and its partner are working on the battery component. Now they are discussing modular blocks for 2,3 kWh, operating from 48 volts. Thus, models requiring more autonomy can use multiple packages.

At this stage, Energica has yet to indicate when these new vehicles might arrive. One thing is for sure: they will be cheaper than the manufacturer's sports electric motorcycles, which now cost more than € 20.000 excluding taxes.
