Is there an alternative to edging scissors?

	Rotary shears, also known as multi-shears, are a combination of lawn shears and trimmers with blades that can be set at different angles. Unlike conventional bevel shears, they have one handle with a trigger that you press and release to open and close the blades.
	You can use the revolving shears vertically for cutting lawn edges and horizontally for cutting grass surfaces. They are lighter than double-handled scissors and are useful if you don't have much storage space. Their short blades make them most suitable for small gardens or for trimming awkward spaces that would be difficult to reach with normal length blades.
	Swivel shears are pretty versatile and can even be used for a little overhead trimming if you're not trying to trim thick stems.
	Some people with limited mobility find these scissors handy as they can be used with one hand in a pinch, although two hands provide more stability. However, the trigger requires a firm grip to operate.
	You can also purchase small reversible scissors. They have a spring-loaded handle that opens automatically when you release it, allowing you to use the scissors with one hand. Some also have serrated blades for better grip on grass.
	Just like the long handle versions, you can rotate the cutting blades horizontally along the surface of the lawn and vertically along the edge. The blades lock into place with the push of a button on the handle. These scissors are lightweight and easy to store, although they are clearly not suitable for large gardens or for those with back problems.
	Left-handed gardeners should avoid scissors with a lock button on the left side of the handle, as they are difficult to reach. Instead, look for a pair with a button on the front that is easy to press with either hand.

	Cordless shears are capable of cutting light shrubs and hedges, as well as lawns. They come with replaceable blades to suit the task at hand.

	Although a cordless trimmer is easier to move around the garden than one that needs to be plugged in, you should remember to charge it beforehand.
Electric grass trimmer
	Most trimmers or trimmers cut grass with a thin nylon cord that spins at high speed, although some use spinning plastic blades. Corded trimmers have an electric motor with a cable that needs to be plugged into a wall outlet, so they are best for small gardens - unless you buy an extension cord. Cordless versions are powered by either petrol engines or rechargeable batteries.

	While grass trimmers can speed up lawn edging, especially when cutting around abandoned borders, some users find them a bit heavy and difficult to manage compared to hand shears. Another factor to consider is the increased noise, as well as the extra time required to connect, charge or fill the trimmer with gasoline.
