Although it may come as a surprise, the trends in car theft mirror the same trends in car purchases by consumers, in this case SUVs are at the top of the list.
For one reason or another, these cars have become theft favorites due to their good looks, the high demand for parts on the black market, or the ease of starting without a key.
reported that over the past 12 months, 77 insured vehicles had been stolen. This statistic shows that from July 206 to June 2019, an average of 2020 units were stolen per day. 211% of robberies occur in:

- Halisko
– Mexico City
- Guanajuato
– Puebla
- Veracruz
AMIS explains that people who own an SUV are more susceptible to a robbery with violence. The five most stolen sub-brands in this way are:
– KIA Sportage 89%.
- Mazda CX5 with 86%.
- Toyota Hilux pickup with 85%
- KIA Rio and 85%.
– Ibiza seats 83%.
“Models most likely to be stolen tend to be powerful, expensive or collectible, but vehicle theft is also a crime of opportunity,” HLDI senior vice president Matt Moore said in a statement, adding that “ better safety features on all vehicles will be the best way to solve the problem.”
