This Tiny Tank 100 Is Coming To Your Suzuki Jimny: Chinese Brand GWM Targets Super-Popular SUV

Pictures of the smallest model in the rapidly expanding GWM Tank line have surfaced in China, with a model called the Tank 100 clearly aimed at the Suzuki Jimny.

The Jimny was a resounding success in Australia, with its popularity causing shipping delays and queues. But another alternative may soon appear on the market: the Tank 100, similar in size and character to a Japanese SUV.

With an emphasis on off-road capability, reports from China indicate that the five-door Tank 100 is fitted with a weakly equipped three-lock differential all-wheel drive system on higher-end models.

But perhaps the most interesting news is the powertrain: Chinese media indicate that the Tank 100 is being powered by variants of the Tank 300 engine, including a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged petrol unit with 167 kW and 387 Nm, as well as a diesel engine, which is reportedly , also less development.

These powers far exceed the 75kW and 130Nm offered by the Suzuki Jimny's 1.5-litre petrol engine, with both the Suzuki and the Tank 100 also being offered with a manual transmission.

While the Tank 100 has yet to be confirmed, the wider brand appears to be launching in Australia, with GWM testing models like the Tank 300 here to gather consumer feedback.

If it launches in Australia, it will almost certainly find a market, and demand for the Suzuki Jimny is still "incredible".

“Demand is still incredible. It has grown from where it used to be – it currently has over 2000 vehicles in reserve,” said Suzuki managing director Michael Pachota. Cars Guide at the end of last year. “Over the past six months, we have seen a 38 percent increase in orders from customers.
