Euro NCAP changes the rules for crash tests

European Organization introduced important points in the testing system

Euro NCAP, a European organization, has announced new crash test rules that change every two years. New points relate to types of tests, as well as tests of modern auxiliary systems.

A key change is the introduction of a new frontal collision test with a moving barrier that simulates a frontal collision with an oncoming car. This test will replace the previous exposure with the fixed barrier that Euro NCAP has used over the past 23 years.

The new technology will more effectively determine the effect of damage to the front structure of the car on the degree of injury received by passengers. This test will use a world-class mannequin called THOR that mimics a middle-aged man.

In addition, Euro NCAP will make changes to side impact tests so that cars will now be hit on both sides to test the effectiveness of the side airbags and assess the damage that passengers can cause to each other.

Meanwhile, the organization will begin to check the effectiveness of automatic emergency braking systems at intersections, as well as check the driver’s health monitoring functions. Finally, Euro NCAP will focus on aspects that are important for saving people after an accident. This, for example, emergency call systems for rescue services.
