Motorcycle riding on the highway

It's no secret that the highway is the best way to quickly cover long distances. This is even more beneficial and safer for two wheelers because they won't see any vehicle coming in the opposite direction. Not all cars are allowed on this special track, but fortunately bicycles are not included in this category. It is still important for motorcyclists to take certain precautions before entering the freeway.

What vehicles are allowed on the motorway? What precautions must be taken before entering the highway? How to ride a motorcycle on the track?

What vehicles are allowed on the motorway?

Because the motorway is a high-speed lane, vehicles need a minimum speed before they can enter it. Thus, vehicles that are unable to travel at a speed of more than 80 km / h are prohibited from driving on the motorway. This includes:

Scooters 50cc

These scooters have a top speed of 60 km / h. As a result, they are often arrested by the police for endangering other road users. Please note that scooters that can exceed the minimum set speed can access it.

Tractors and agricultural machinery

These cars are considered slow vehicles that cannot maintain speed on the highway. Therefore, access is denied to them.

The same goes for unlicensed cars traveling at a maximum speed of 45 km / h. These cars pose a real danger to other users, because the slightest decrease in speed can cause an accident. While these accidents are indeed rare, when they do occur, the results are disastrous.

Motorized quads

When a motorized ATV has power equal to or less than 15W, it is prohibited to travel on the highway. This is for his safety and the safety of other users. Vehicles without an engine are also classified as unauthorized vehicles.

Apart from these cases, it can be accessed by all other vehicles, the speed of which may exceed 80 km / h.

What precautions must be taken before entering the highway?

When planning to drive on the freeway, you need to make sure that your car is in good shape and will not let you go during the trip. To do this, we suggest that you check a few important points before leaving.

Prepare your route

Before entering the freeway, you must prepare your route, as you risk getting it wrong. Thus, we recommend that you use a recent roadmap to get directions or your GPS. If you do not have these options, go to a site that specializes in this matter.

Once your route is known, print it out and place the document in the tank. Your route will be in front of your eyes without stopping. Also, if you plan to use GPS, remember to charge it.

During your journey, you will undoubtedly encounter tolls. For this, it is advisable to prepare the necessary additional funds for making payments.

Prepare important documents

You must be provided with certain basic documents while traveling. Basically, this is a driver's license, insurance certificate, vehicle registration document and a mobile phone. You can also keep an amicable report card in case of possible accidents.

Check the condition of your motorcycle

Always check the condition of your tires before entering a motorway. Check your tire pressures to make sure they will withstand the entire ride. Also check the handbrake as well as the suspension adjustment. Also check the level of all fluids, oil, water and gasoline.

After a full check, you should fill your toolbox or, in the worst case, prepare your case yourself. We recommend that you bring a screwdriver (flat and Phillips), a size 10, 12 and 14 wrench, water pump pliers and a rag.

Wear the right outfit

Depending on the weather conditions, you should wear clothing that will protect you throughout your trip. Also, you should definitely make yourself visible when traveling. To do this, put on a fluorescent vest and a glowing helmet so that other road users can quickly identify you.

How to ride a motorcycle on the track?

Once you have properly prepared for your trip and have taken all the necessary precautions for a good journey, you can now enter the freeway. Vigilance and caution should be your watchwords throughout the journey.

Move in the middle of the lane

For safety reasons, drive in the center of the lane throughout your journey. Indeed, by moving in the center of the lane, you force all other users to move completely to the left lane before being overtaken. Also turn on the low beam headlights even during daytime.

Be very vigilant

Vigilance is essential to successful trail riding. Drive at a suitable speed, keeping a distance of 150 meters between vehicles. Be very careful when passing. Look in your rearview mirror and then frankly turn your head to make sure there is no car in the blind spot.

Treasure group journey

For motorcycling on the highway, it is best to travel in a group. It's much safer and allows you to be more visible. Before leaving, you must provide the itinerary to all members of the group and, if possible, exchange numbers. As far as lane positioning, put the slower bike at the front of the group and the more experienced rider at the tail. The motorcycle in front of the queue signals all changes of direction and stops with simple gestures.

Take breaks

Driving on the freeway is not easy and this exercise is really tiring. To do this, take the time to make stops to better find each other and be on top to continue the journey.
