Group riding on motorcycles

How to ride safely in a group

Good driving rules ... from 2 motorcycles

Motorcycles are often alone, sometimes in pairs and regularly in groups. Group means differences in years, experience, skills, characters, bikes: all the factors that make everyone develop differently.

Therefore, the goal is to organize a group for safe movement. To do this, there are rules of good conduct that ensure the safety of each biker and group under all circumstances: in a straight line, in a curve, during overtaking.

Organization of a walk

Knowing how to drive on the road is, first of all, being able to organize yourself earlier for the trip!

  • have their documents with good reputation: license, registration card, insurance ...
  • be on time to meeting, WITH FULL (there is nothing more annoying for the whole group so that it has to stop for a breakdown)
  • we read road book before
  • we indicate name and phone number of the organizerwho will often be the discoverer (he must know who will come and with which car to prepare for the gas station stops)
  • we accept the fact that a walk is not a race
  • we do not lose anyone on a walk

Organization of motorcycles

Riding in a group includes staggered driving (especially not in one file), observance of safe distances and his place in the group. Either way, you never get past the knife.

The first motorcycle plays a special role:

  • he is placed on the left side of the track as a "scout",
  • she must know the journey and guide others,
  • it adjusts its speed compared to the bike at the back
  • ideally, the opener wears a fluorescent vest

Second motorcycle:

  • it should be the smallest offset, or
  • lowest autonomy or
  • driven by the most novice biker.

Latest motorcycle:

  • she controls the whole group
  • she warns about the problem of calling the headlights
  • it is led by an experienced biker
  • it must be efficient and well maintained so that it never falls
  • she must be able to queue in case of a serious problem
  • ideally, the one who closes is wearing a fluorescent vest

Driving

In a straight line

The small footprint of the motorcycle allows you to travel across the full width of the road. Lonely, you are standing in the middle of the carriageway and even slightly off-center to the left. In a group, a motorcycle must be placed to the right or left of the track, each motorcycle being staggered from the one that precedes and follows.

This allows a more compact group and greater safety distances to be created without the need to avoid unwanted braking in the event of unwanted braking. This staggered placement offers the added benefit of a central vision corridor that allows every biker to see far.

In a curve

Staggered placement remains mandatory. Now, perfect placement in the curve allows you to create the perfect trajectory, and if you are in a series of close viralos, you can go back into one file.

You NEVER stop in a curve. But if the bent biker has a problem, we continue to find a safe and clearly visible place from afar.

When overtaking

The first rule is that you always maintain your position in the group. Now, you may have to overtake another road user: a truck, a car ... Then overtaking is carried out one by one, in any role, in the order of the train. Therefore, each biker overtakes, waiting for his turn, and especially waiting for the previous biker to overtake. He then stands to the left of his lane and starts walking when there is enough space in front of him between the rider and the vehicle. After the vehicle has been passed, it is important not to reduce its speed in order to leave room for a return to the next biker.

Key recommendations:

  • respect safety distances
  • always keep the same place in the group
  • always turn on the turn signals in case of overtaking
  • Feel free during any deceleration to make brake light calls (light and re-brake pressure)
  • relay to the leading motorcycle calls to the headlights of those who are cut off from the group (red light, slow car, breakdown, etc.)
  • remain vigilant, fearing the phenomenon of falling asleep associated with simple observance
  • avoid groups of more than 8 motorcycles; then subgroups have to be made that will be a good kilometer away.
  • we do not lose anyone

FATHER

  • respect the highway code
  • do not drive with alcohol or under the influence of drugs in your blood (also look out for certain medications)
  • do not drive in emergency stop lanes
  • always stop in a safe position
  • be seen from other vehicles: headlights, turn signals, etc.
  • thanks to those who leave the passage
