The headlight is a very important element that has a significant impact on driving safety. In order to properly illuminate the road, it must have the appropriate structure and quality. There are many headlamps on the market that do not meet any requirements.
Price or quality
The offer of spotlights is large and the buyer may have difficulty in choosing. The main criterion may not be price, but quality. And prices vary greatly and depend on the model of the car, the manufacturer of the headlights and the place of purchase. In most cases, the headlight costs the most in authorized shops, but not always. If we have a popular car model, there will be no problems with buying a replacement. The trouble is that there are a lot of these substitutes too.
For example, on Astra I.
For the first generation Opel Astra, there are plenty to choose from. The reflector can be bought for only 100 PLN, but its quality leaves much to be desired. The offer also includes replacements from well-known lighting manufacturers (Bosch, Hella), which are up to 30 percent cheaper. from the original headlights. However, for Astra II or Honda Civic, we will buy the original cheaper at an authorized service station than a good replacement.
Bad substitutions
There are many headlamps on the market that do not meet any requirements. They are not certified and in many cases cannot be properly adjusted because they do not have a clear line between light and shadow. Such a lamp also causes blinding of oncoming drivers. For such headlights, the police will take a registration certificate from us, and the diagnostician will certainly not put a technical inspection stamp.
Headlight marking
The headlight must have letters and numbers identifying its purpose. The most important is the capital letter E with a number in a circle. The letter indicates the approval mark, i.e. serviceability, and the number indicates the country of approval of the headlamp. The consecutive numbers on the right side of the circle indicate the approval number. The arrow on the reflector glass is very important. If there is no arrow, then the light is for right-hand traffic, and if there is, then for left-hand traffic. Turning on headlights for other vehicles will dazzle oncoming traffic.
You can also find headlights (but very rarely) with arrows with right and left spikes (for example, some Ford Scorpios), i.e. with the ability to adjust the light beam.
On the headlight you will find the following letters that determine its purpose: B - fog, RL - daytime driving, C - low beam, R - road, CR - low and road, C / R low or road. The letter H means that the headlight is adapted to halogen lamps (H1, H4, H7), and D - xenon lamps. On the body we can also find information about the intensity of the light and the so-called elevation angle.
Xenons
With xenon headlights, drivers have no choice but to buy from the dilar. Unfortunately, the prices for such lamps are much higher. For example, a Ford Mondeo xenon headlight costs PLN 2538, while a regular headlight costs PLN 684. For a 2006 Honda Accord, a regular headlight costs PLN 1600 and a xenon headlight costs PLN 1700. But to xenon you need to add a converter for 1000 zlotys and a light bulb for 600 zlotys, so the whole lamp costs not 1700 zlotys, but 3300 zlotys.
Standard xenon headlights are not replaceable as xenon headlights require auto leveling and headlight washer. Of course, in many cases such modifications can be made, but the total cost can even be several thousand. zloty.
