Fiat Albea 1.2 16V

So all of a sudden we have a bunch of cars that are otherwise beautiful and safe, but extremely perishable. As if that weren't enough, in the end they get more and more expensive. So it's no surprise that the little-used (cheaper, proven) car business is booming. Do we really need all modern electronics, four-wheeled computers that we can hardly afford on credit? Of course not!

If the family budget had a little more at the end of the amount, no one would defend the car in the latest fashion, but too often we drive them only in our imaginations and dreams. Well, some of the big producers have found holes in their supply and have placed their horse alongside Korean competitors. Renault did it with Dacia Logan and they did it Fiat with Albea. Welcome to the real life of working people!

It does sound a little ironic, but we have to write down this thought: Koreans (we mean Chevrolet - once Daewoo, Kia, Hyundai) once imitated and mixed the prices of large European manufacturers with cheaper cars. Today they make very good cars (Hyundai is in the lead here) and are already moving into the middle-class car cabbage. But the empire strikes back: "If they can, we can," they say. And here we have the Fiat Albeo, an affordable, spacious and fully usable family car.

The price, which includes almost all the amenities most demanded by the population (air conditioning, power windows, etc.), does not exceed 2 million tolar. With this machine, we were asked what pays off more for the average person who earns his bread with sweat and blisters. Or a new Albea, or a slightly second hand Stilo? Believe me, the decision will not be easy if we do not insist from the very beginning that we only need a new car.

Then Albea has an advantage. What's new is new and there's nothing here, but the two-year warranty will convince many. Well, there are many more reasons, and driving a car whose entire history you know (doubts about mileage, maintenance and possible breakdown disappear) is only part of it.

The new Fiat has additional benefits. Undoubtedly one of them could be the appearance of Albea. It resembles a Fiat from five years ago, but we cannot talk about a mismatch in shape. Also about excessive design obsolescence. Some people still like the Brave and the Bravi, but Palio is old Punto and you could probably find him. They'll love Albea too.

This is closely related to them, as they made the car on the platform of old Punto. It doesn't really mean anything bad, the old Punto was a perfectly decent car. In order not to be able to talk about putting on the conveyor a car that said goodbye a good five years ago, it was so changed that any excessive comparison is unjustified.

If there are claims to the exterior that the car is outdated, then this cannot be said about the interior. Unfortunately, we have to admit that many new cars can be inspired by the comfortable shapes and usability that Albea offers the driver and passengers. There are enough drawers and places to store things so that the wallet is always in its place, and the mobile phone is available and at hand. Buttons and switches are also ergonomically located, we have not prepared any special complaints - naturally, we did not expect a "high-tech" interior.

The comfort behind the wheel, the passenger seat and the back bench can be praised a lot. There is enough space on the front and rear seats, only really large passengers in the back will be a little cramped, and for children or adults up to about 180 cm there will be no riddles about where to go with their knees and head. ... Thus, there is enough room for a longer trip, but perhaps with only four in the cabin, rather than five, as Albea officially authorizes.

Red thread is soft upholstery, muted beige. The seats don't really provide lateral traction, but we didn't miss that with a machine like this. Anyone who thought about racing Albea missed the start. More like drivers with a relaxed driving style. Maybe even old and calm gentlemen in a hat on their heads, who only occasionally drive the car out of the garage. In fact, there are many who love comfortable soft sedans and have never wanted anything more than a car. You won't find sporty style at Albea.

The chassis is also adapted for a moderately fast and, above all, a comfortable ride. Any exaggeration in corners leads to the fact that the tires squeak in disgust, and the body tilts excessively. It is also very difficult to go faster and to maintain the desired direction or line accurately when cornering. The rear loves to slip when the throttle is turned off and the car is out of balance. For more strength, the Albea will require less chassis tuning, perhaps just slightly stiffer springs or a set of dampers.

I would like a little more from the work of the checkpoint. It's like a comfortable chassis. Therefore, fast gear shifting is more of a burden than a pleasure. It happened to us a few times that we were too rough just because of our impatience and the habit we come across in more sporty cars. The same goes for shifting into reverse. Each jerk is followed by a slow hrrrssk that the box felt sorry for us every time! But since we never exaggerated, we experienced nothing but that sound.

Unlike the very average gearbox, this Albeo's engine proved to be a big critic.

This is Fiat's tried and tested 1-liter 2-valve engine with 16 hp, just enough to keep an empty car decently following the flow of traffic. However, when overtaking, you will definitely need a little more power.

The fuel consumption in our test was about 9 liters, which is not an example of savings, but the newer technology, which provides lower fuel consumption, is too expensive for this car. On the other hand, given the price difference between the Albeo and the new JTD engine, you can drive for quite a few years. For those who cannot or do not want to afford a car with a more modern and economical engine, there is also information on the minimum consumption. During the test, the engine drank at least 7 liters of gasoline while gently pressing the gas.

Albea also does not shine in overclocking. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 15 seconds, which is very mediocre, but quite enough for such a car. Demanding more would already lead to vanity. We will not complain about the final speed of 2 km / h. If not for another reason, it is because at speeds above 160 km / h the car becomes a little restless when driving on uneven highway asphalt. For more precise driving on fast corners on Albea motorways, some chassis strength is not sufficient, similar to what we have described when driving on regional and rural roads.

Measurement of the braking distance showed a pattern similar to acceleration. Nothing shocking, the lower end of the gray average. According to our criteria, the braking distance was 1 meter longer.

Nevertheless, we can say that Albea is one of the safest cars in this class. Despite the cheapness, passengers were given two airbags and ABS.

The base Albea will set you back 2.330.000 seats. This is a bit for a car that is all right. And nothing really stands out (except for the price).

But it is the price of this car that is likely to attract most buyers. For less than two and a half million, you get a decent sedan, plus it has a fairly large trunk. Comfort, which far surpasses sportiness, should not be neglected (if you think about it, this is not the case in this car). After all, tallying when to decide whether the money saved will go to a new car shows that Albea can be yours for as little as 35.000 SIT a month.

We got such an approximate calculation, assuming that the probable buyer of such a car will make a deposit of 1 million, and the rest - on credit for 4 years. This is at least a conditionally acceptable amount for a person with a minimum monthly wage.

Overall rating (262/420)

  • Fiat Albea is a good response to pressure from Korea, Dacia Logan and Renault Thalia. Maybe Fiat was a little late

but you know what they say: it's never too late! After what the car is capable of, we can say that it ranks first among its competitors.

  • Exterior (12/15)

The build quality trumps the somewhat boring design.

  • Interior (101/140)

Spaciousness, comfort and a large trunk are the strengths of Albea.

  • Engine, transmission (25

    / 40)

The engine with its 80 hp would still be deemed suitable for this car, but the gearbox disappointed us because of this.

    inaccuracies and slowness.

  • Driving performance (52

    / 95)

Comfort is an integral part of driving performance. Get used to flirting.

  • Performance (17/35)

The car does not show more than average, but we did not expect more from it.

  • Security (33/45)

Standard airbags for driver and front passenger speak in favor of safety, ABS comes at an additional cost.

  • Economy

This is a car for those who do not want to spend all their fortune. It's affordable and will probably hold up well

the price is the same as a used car.
