Fiat Stilo 1.9 JTD (80km) Active 5V

Selling the Stilo is not what Fiat planned. But after two weeks in a five-door Stilo with an 80-horsepower diesel under the hood, the reasons for this are no clearer than speculation. The Stilo is not a below average or even bad car.

The engine is already a modern 1-liter turbodiesel with common rail technology and the JTD label, which we also praised in a more powerful version (9 horsepower) and in other cars of the same concern. 110 horsepower isn't sporty, and since the Stilo weighs 80 pounds, performance isn't that great either. However, they are quite enough so that you do not create congestion in the city by starting at a traffic light, you can overtake without road palms, and you can overcome long freeways with more than satisfactory speed.

The declared top speed is "only" 170 kilometers per hour, but with a dozen less on the speedometer, you can drive half of Europe without complaining about Stilo or getting a spasm in your sword from pressing the gas pedal. And to be a little more moderate, consumption on such a route can drop significantly below 7 liters per 100 kilometers. So the engine quietly deserves a good mark.

As a notch lower, say, in the middle class interior. There is plenty of room, but it sits (in the front) too high and the plastic could be more pleasing to the eye and to the touch. However, it is good enough in that it does not creak and does not give the feeling that the piece will fall off.

The chassis is made because the five-door Stilo is more family-oriented, tuned for comfort, but the road position is solid, the brakes don't deserve words, only the steering wheel is too heavy. The gear lever is quite long, and although its movements are precise and quick, it could have been less flexible.

The equipment deserves the title of moderate: safety is provided by two airbags, ABS with EBD and BAS systems and anti-skid system of the driving wheels ASR. The central lock does not have a remote control, you have to pay a good two hundred thousand for the air conditioner, the on-board computer is standard, as are the fog lights.

And the price: over three million tolars. Maybe the reason for the lower sales lies in the price, or the culprit, for example, is not quite in line with current trends? If you like the latter and don't care about the former, you can choose Stilo with a completely clear conscience. You buy a good car that doesn't stand out in any way, but doesn't disappoint in anything.

evaluation

  • The 80-horsepower diesel five-door Stilo actually has everything the average driver needs. True, it would be nice if the equipment was richer, the price is lower, the power is more ... But: even in the form as it is, it satisfies all needs.
