Fisker plans to build an electric car for less than $30,000

Fisker has had great success with the launch of the new Fisker Ocean, a truly attractive SUV. However, the automaker has already opened pre-orders for its second electric car, the new Fisker PEAR, a compact car that will provide sporty driving.

While we wait for the new one to arrive later this year, the new electric car maker has opened bookings for its second electric vehicle. PEAR (Personal Electric Automotive Revolution) is expected to appear in 2024. The exciting part of this news is that the PEAR will start at $29,900, and that's before any incentives or taxes.

PEAR from Fisker will be one of the cheapest electric vehicles on the market.

That starting price would make the next PEAR one of the most affordable electric vehicles available in the US if it were sold today. At 30,000 it would still be a bargain since the 2024 EV costs $7,500. With a possible $22,400 federal EV tax credit, PEAR could be available to many for as little as $XNUMX.

Fisher's story

Fisker Inc. started as Fisker Automotive in 2007. The American electric car manufacturer made and sold luxury electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. Shortly after the company's launch, Fisker released the Fisker Karma plug-in hybrid sports car. Unfortunately, the automaker has had battery issues, a lawsuit with Tesla, and Hurricane Sandy. The company went bankrupt and closed in 2014. 

The rights to Fisker Karma were sold to Wanxiang, who took over the assets and established a new company called Karma Automotive. This led to the Karma Revero plug-in hybrid car based on the Fisker Karma.

Company founder Henrik Fisker retained the Fisker logo and trademarks. Fisker Inc. was launched in 2016 and since it did not have the rights to its previous work, it developed new concepts and electrical models. One of them was the Fisker Orbit, a popular autonomous shuttle for electric vehicles at airports, cities and campuses.

Fisker's next cars

The other is the upcoming Fisker Ocean, a luxury compact EV SUV that will debut later this year. The company also develops the Emotion luxury sports car and the Alaska pickup.

PEAR's next electric car

Fisker transferred production of the Ocean to Magna-Steyr. However, Fisker is partnering with Foxconn to produce PEAR. PEAR will be manufactured in Ohio with a production target of 250,000 units per year.
