When the Ford Fiesta VI had been on the market for several years, the Skoda Fabia II and Toyota Yaris II had just debuted. The consequences of this can be seen with the naked eye. Little Ford stands out for his style, he is angular and generally unattractive.

The competitors are not particularly sensual, but they are definitely prettier and, above all, look more modern. However, they are only watching, because neither Skoda nor Toyota brought a technical revolution to their bestsellers - both Fabia II and Yaris II are created by evolution of previous models. For the user, this is only a plus, because instead of experimenting with new solutions, both companies used what was good, improved what needed to be changed, and created solid cars.

Perhaps some will think it would be fairer to include the latest, much more attractive Fiesta in the comparison. However, this model is on sale for such a short time that it is difficult to find interesting offers in the secondary market - remember that such young cars rarely change hands without a serious reason (it could be a collision or some kind of hidden defect). Finding a reliable copy among 3 or 4 year old cars is much easier. In addition, comparing Ford Fiesta VI with Skoda Fabia II and Toyota Yaris II shows that for the same amount you can buy cars with similar utility rates, but of different ages.

This is very important when the budget is limited, for example, up to 25 1.4. zloty. For that much, you can buy a Ford Fiesta VI with an economical 1.2 TDCi diesel, a Skoda Fabia II in the basic version with a 3 HTP petrol or a 1.3 2008-door Toyota Yaris II - all cars of the 5th year of manufacture. , Ford's offer is the most attractive, especially since you can afford a diesel that consumes an average of no more than 100 l / 6 km - competitors with the same economical units are at least . zloty.

Diesel certainly reduces the cost of day-to-day operation, but small cars don't have enough difference in fuel consumption compared to gasoline cars to risk the more frequent and more expensive drive problems that will prove inevitable in the future. If we compare our heroes with similar gasoline engines, then the price attractiveness of the Fiesta will only increase. Unfortunately, often a lower purchase price means higher maintenance costs. So, let's try to figure out if the Fiesta has anything to hide and why the smallest Toyota has to pay the most.

In the Toyota Yaris, buyers primarily see a car that guarantees uptime, and therefore willingly pay more than many competitors who can offer more, for example, in terms of roominess. All indications are that the second generation Yaris will not disappoint those who buy it. It's a really solid car, but not as practical as its competitors as it has less space in the back seat and in the trunk.

However, this is only a problem for those who are looking for a replacement for a family car. If the Yarisa is being used by one or two people, it doesn't really matter. However, we will appreciate the low fuel consumption of Toyota's liter engine (less than 5,5 l/100 km on average). Driving dynamics is also good, but only up to a speed of 80 km / h. For those traveling on longer routes, we recommend the 1.3/80 HP motor, which makes overtaking at higher speeds no problem. In the secondary market, we will also find a much more expensive Yaris with a 1.4 D-4D/90 hp diesel engine. This is the liveliest version, and at the same time the most economical, but it is the only one that does not guarantee the reliability of the drive.

To sum up: Toyota Yaris II with gasoline under the hood is not very problematic, but inferior to both competitors in the exact alignment of the chassis and the accuracy of the gearbox.

Skoda Fabia did a better job with this, and we have a large selection of engines. However, the biggest advantage is the functional body - the B-class does not have a larger interior, and the car is also available as a family station wagon. The beauty of the Fabia II is, to put it mildly, controversial, but three years after the premiere, we can already say that this is a modified model. Even in the first copies of the corrections, there were not so many, if they touched on small details, such as the handles of the rear shelf.

In the aftermarket, the most popular version of the engine is the 3-cylinder 1.2 HTP engine with 60 or 70 hp. It has a low work culture and delivers mediocre performance, but proves to be reliable. Petrol 1.4 / 85 km seems optimal. Of course, we can also buy a Fabia with a 1.4 TDI or 1.9 TDI diesel, but this is an expensive proposition only for those who drive a lot.

The Ford Fiesta is the oldest design in comparison, but it can't be blamed too much. Under the angular body is one of the largest interiors in the B-class and a roomy 284-liter trunk. It is worth noting that changes were made in 2004 to eliminate cases of rapid corrosion. The steering precision is commendable, but the chassis durability is slightly worse than the Fabia and Yaris, although it is just as simple.

Fiesta VI of the last years of production is most often equipped with a 1.25 / 75 hp engine. - it is not very good compared to rivals, but for a dynamic ride you have to reach for the 1.4/80 hp engine. Unfortunately, in the process of operating a multi-year car, it may turn out that the Ford is not as durable as its competitors, and you will have to visit the site more often.

Ford Fiesta VI – In the group of B-segment cars produced a few thousand PLN a few years ago, the Fiesta VI is an interesting offer. Its biggest advantages are a functional body and relatively low maintenance costs.

Exterior design is the Fiesta's weak point, but both usability and bodywork are not to be seriously complained about. The ride is comfortable in the front, the rear is much tighter - there is a little less space here than in the Fabia, but more than in the Yaris. The trunk is similar. With a volume of 284/947 liters, it is in the middle of the package.

Equipment? Pretty bad, at least in the first phase of production (driver's airbag and power steering). Of course, on the market you will find cars enriched with many additions, but they are mostly imported and have a post-accident history.

In the Polish specification, the Fiesta was initially only available with the 1.3 engine. This is an old design and its biggest advantage is that it works with an LPG installation without any major issues. We recommend the 1.25 engine as it provides a good balance between performance and fuel consumption. For fans of turbodiesels, we recommend the 1.6 TDCi engine (import).

It has the same durability as the 1.4 TDCi but convinces with much better dynamics. Note: Fiesta with units 1.4 and 1.6 was not offered in Poland, so we recommend that you be careful when buying - there are a lot of broken cars.

The sixth generation Fiesta can be purchased for a reasonable price. Prices for cars from the start of production start at about 11 thousand rubles. zlotys, while for copies after modernization you have to pay 4-5 thousand. more zlotys. This is not much if you take into account the age and decent durability. Yes, the model has a number of shortcomings and is not a standard of quality and durability, but due to a moderate number of serious breakdowns (mostly electrical breaks) and cheap spare parts, Fiesta can be operated without spending a lot of money.

Additional Information: Fiesta VI is an interesting alternative to Fabia II and Yaris II. Yes, it does not look too crazy, it does not tempt with cutting-edge technical solutions (the car debuted in 2001), but from the point of view of operation it looks really satisfactory - inexpensive spare parts even at an authorized service station. An important advantage is also a very attractive price in the secondary market.

Skoda Fabia II - Skoda Fabia II generation went on sale in early 2007. Although outwardly it is completely different, it is technically very similar to its predecessor.

The silhouette of the body is the most controversial. We agree that the Fabia II could look better. But will it then have the same spacious interior? Probably not, and even in the back, 190cm tall people can ride easily and still have some headroom. Baby Skoda also convinces with good materials used in the cabin - unlike those used in Fabia I. Standard equipment is not rich (including ABS and power steering), but as many as 4 serial airbags deserve attention.

In the secondary market, the Fabia has the most offers with 1.2 HTP. This is a 3-cylinder unit with not the best work culture and not too much power: 60 or 70 hp. Buyers chose it mainly because of the lower price than cars with a 4/1.4 hp 85-cylinder engine. However, in terms of durability, you can't blame it too much - problems with the timing chain tensioner and valve seat burnout were eliminated in the previous generation. The suspension also deserves a good rating - although it is very simple, it allows you to feel confident in the car.

A used Skoda Fabia II isn't cheap, but if you choose one, you won't have to worry about how it will be used. This is due to the low failure rate, and even if something breaks, we will be pleasantly surprised by the prices of original spare parts. Often they are so attractive that it is not worth looking for cheaper substitutes of dubious quality. Standard inspections are carried out every 15 thousand. km, and their cost ranges from PLN 500 to PLN 1200 - more expensive also includes the replacement of air and pollen filters, brake fluid and wipers.

Additional Information: Skoda has released a successful car. Even if one has trouble accepting a body with unusual proportions, one still has to admit that few B-class cars can provide the same high driving comfort in both rows. Fabia II also benefits from low maintenance due to good durability, simple construction and cheap parts.

Toyota Yaris II - The second generation Toyota Yaris is very popular in the secondary market. Unlike its predecessor, the car looks much more interesting, while maintaining high wear resistance.

From the outside, the Yaris looks attractive, but the interior design makes a rather ambiguous impression. A quirky center console with vertically placed knobs, a display with a speedometer in the middle… Some will like it, some won't. But that's not all, because a city car must be reliable and, most importantly, a compact means of transportation for short distances.

Plenty of storage space and a sliding rear seat are a plus. The amount of legroom in the rear row of seats is a drawback, especially when compared to the rivals described. Fortunately, the materials in the interior proved to be quite durable.

In Poland, Yaris with a base engine 1.0 / 69 hp. is a bestseller. This is a rather weak drive, characterized by a low work culture (R3), but it is enough for a quiet city ride (its performance is worse than that of the Fiesta 1.25 and Fabia 1.2). The undoubted advantages of this engine are low fuel consumption and high reliability.

We recommend that you buy a Yaris with a 1.3 / 87 km engine or a 1.4 D-4D diesel engine, but these are high costs. Beware of automatic transmissions: they work terribly, impair acceleration. CVTs work better, although - if something goes wrong - financially "let's go"!

In the secondary market, a juvenile Yaris is valued. For a used 4-year-old car, we will pay about the same as a better-equipped Fiesta a year younger. After all, this is not a pointless purchase - we will get a slightly less functional car, but definitely more durable, which will then be easier to sell. Original spare parts are quite expensive, but durable.

Additional Information: The Yaris II is a car worth considering, mainly because of its good looks, low loss of value, and satisfactory durability. The base engine 1.0 R3 should also be considered a strong point of the model, because although it is not very dynamic, it turns out to be really economical. Unfortunately, potential buyers have to put up with considerable costs for both purchase and service at the Dealership.

If one of them is a spacious interior, then the Skoda Fabia, raised by the standards of the B-class, will be the best choice of the three proposed. It is also a reasonable proposition due to its high durability and low maintenance costs. Toyota Yaris II turns out to be the most expensive, but breaks down very rarely and even after a few years it can be easily sold at a good price. At the same time, the Fiesta will lose the most in value, but its operation should not be expensive either.
