Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCi Estate Trend

The classic direct injection they swore on for a long time, perhaps too long, could no longer compete on an equal footing with Common Rail technology. So, finally it was possible to write, they took it on their own. So, today in the field of Ford diesel engines we find two brands: TDDi (direct injection) and TDCi (common line). The latter designation, together with the red letters C and I, also denotes the most powerful diesel engine in the Mondeo.

Nothing shocking, one might say. We have long been accustomed to red letters in diesel engines, and the label is quite logical and also expected. But we just can't give up on a newbie. The main technical data (displacement, bore and stroke, number of valves ...) suggests that it was developed from an existing engine (TDDi), although

Ford claims to be brand new.

Otherwise, it doesn't matter at all. The horsepower and torque figures are much more impressive: 95 kW / 130 hp. and as much as 330 Nm. In the factory materials, you can read that with the help of "overboost" you can squeeze out as much as 350 Nm in a short time. Uuuaaavvv, but these are already very good numbers.

But Mondeo will surprise you with other things too. If you think about it in the RV version, you will definitely be impressed with the space. And not just luggage! In addition, you will be surprised by the combination of materials and colors, good front seats that are generously adjustable, just such a steering wheel, excellent position, good gearbox and, just as important, communicative mechanics that give you information about what is happening. under the wheels.

But we missed the on-board computer, the reading lights above the rear seat, the partition in the trunk, the automatic transmission, which is unthinkable in combination with this engine, and especially ESP or at least TC (traction control). The latter can be thought of in the Mondeo 2.0 TDCi from the list of surcharges from August this year - trust me, you won't regret the money for it.

With what power reserve you can play while driving, you will not notice when you start. Vice versa! The engine is not at all sovereign in the lowest rpm range and requires a lot of added gas from the driver, otherwise he "dies". The moment a turbocharger comes to his aid, he literally goes crazy. If not on a dry surface, be sure to find one on a wet or slippery surface. Even in third gear, the drive wheels have not yet calmed down. Well, thanks to the good chassis and steering gear, at least you have no major problems with the Mondeo's handling. However, without the addition of ESP, a lot of feeling and knowledge is required from the driver.

But the final ratings of the Mondeo 2.0 TDCi Karavan are nevertheless very high. Just because there is really a lot in it. For example: space, power, torque ...

  • Mondeo has already proven in many tests that it is a very good car. In fact, all he needed was a fairly modern diesel engine, which he finally got. Unfortunately, in combination with it, you cannot think of an automatic transmission, an on-board computer and TC, which some may definitely miss.
