Ford Mondeo 2.5i V6 24V Caravan Trend

If you opt for this body version, you get a lot of car sheet metal and of course a lot of interior space. Mondeo doesn't skimp on this. It is enough for both the front and rear seats (even for large ones), and there is a lot in the trunk, for which the van version has basically 540 liters of space.

By gradually folding down the rear seat backs, the volume can be increased to 1700 liters. In the Mondeo, only the backrest folds down, not the seat, but that doesn't bother too much as the lower section of the enlarged boot is still flat and easily accessible. Ease of access is also defined by the low rear loading lip, which is much lower than that of a sedan or station wagon, and is even cut deep into the rear bumper.

Although Ford is leaning more towards the classic direction, it is still distinguished by technical excellence and precise mechanics. The chassis is mostly soft, but impresses with its dynamics and steering precision. Of course, setting is also important to maintain a neutral position and controlled response. By adjusting the chassis, they found a good compromise for almost any circumstance. The Mondeo also has good brakes. In addition to the short braking distance, a good dosing of the required braking force is possible.

Ford has revamped its engine lineup significantly, but the largest of them, the six-cylinder, has remained largely unchanged. The Duretec V6 is renowned for its reliability, durability and low maintenance. They only adapted it to provide quieter and smoother operation while reducing emissions.

He successfully hides his rated power, especially in fuel consumption; not exactly among the more frugal. The engine is lazy at high speeds - it lacks maneuverability. Despite the fact that the gearbox is not bad and allows for fast, short and precise movements, there is still too much work with such an engine. We also lack electronics that prevent the drive wheels from spinning. There is too much power in low gears, and something likes to slip when pulling away.

Thus, both in form and mechanics, Ford was more in the classical direction. However, they do like the taillights, which are (typical of vans lately) built into the pillars. There is no other superfluous design experience. A device that outweighs a bunch of digital technology is, above all, a beautiful oval-shaped analog clock that beautifully decorates the interior.

The ergonomics of the driver's seat is good (electric height adjustment). Leather-covered seats are the fruit of domestic knowledge; for the equivalent of more than 1000 euros, they make them in Vrhnika IUV. The surfaces are good, but the grip is not for fast cornering. But the main goal of the Mondeo is, of course, not speed, but the satisfaction of spaciousness. And they succeeded. With the trunk and interior as a whole, and with storage compartments inside - a little less. Otherwise: the world is not equally good for everyone.

evaluation

  • The Mondeo automatic transmission design may have been well received ten years ago, but today, with more and more advanced automatic transmissions, we can no longer claim it. Therefore, large investments of more than 300 thousand are simply meaningless.
