Ford Mondeo ST200

I'm not really sure what to think of Mondeo now. Although this is a somewhat old model, it cannot be ignored in the form of the ST200. The view itself promises something more. Then there are the Recar seats, a rigid chassis, a real six-cylinder engine that produces more than 200 horsepower. No, you have to try it! At least a few kilometers ...

Ford Mondeo ST200

I myself cannot believe that the fuel tank needed to be refilled that day. The meter read only "slightly less" 300 kilometers, so I began to believe the claims that the fuel tank was too small. Well, it wasn't completely empty yet.

But it is also true that these 200 and a few thirsty horses need to be watered if we want them to pull. But they pull, they pull! At first they are shy, but above 5000 rpm they are no longer joking and give all the best. This is what Ford engineers defined.

In the lower rev range, it operates like the original version with 170 horsepower, while at higher revs it is tuned for much more power. Therefore, the pistons were replaced with lighter ones, the camshafts were replaced with ones that had a longer opening time, and the intake manifold was perfected. They also added a low resistance air filter and dual exhaust filters. The engine noise is not excessive, I would say a pleasant grunt. Typical six-cylinder! This time around, the Mondeo has no shortage of power (unlike other engines).

In such a car, of course, you must immediately turn off the “traction control system”. Power should be felt on the accelerator pedal. Of course, if you overdo it, it will fly into the void. But in the turn, he also “lies” well. If you go too far with the gas, at first the nose starts to come out of the turn a little, if you brake, it turns into a restless ass, but for a while it is still well controlled.

The car is pleasantly controlled and balanced, despite its size. This is aided a bit by the right tires, a slightly stronger and stiffer chassis, and a powerful engine for agility. Powerful and convincing brakes are also a reliable part of the car. You'd be a little crazy if it wasn't for that. But the brakes are really decent!

The super Mondeo's looks are special too. It's not that you "fall", we've already seen some serious tuning, but everything is done with good taste. The front and rear bumpers are more aggressive, dropped lower and decorated with chrome grilles.

In addition to concrete slots, the front end is complemented by fog lamps, and two exhaust pipes protrude at the rear. Side skirts and large alloy wheels with low-cut "erasers" do their job from the side. The Mondeo is no longer like itself, but much more like its racing cousins from the British Touring Car Competitions (BTCC). In addition to the impeccable shape, there is also a spoiler on the boot lid.

The interior, namely the fittings, the door and the gear lever, are subtly decorated with a good imitation of carbon. The seats are leather. The equipment is rich: four airbags, air conditioning, a good radio with a CD changer, all power windows, an on-board computer, a central remote lock - in a word, an abundance of luxury that we are usually not used to in cars.

And don't think the Mondeo ST200 is the first of its kind in the Ford racing family. Think Escort and Capri RS XNUMXs. Fiesta, Escort and Sierra XR in the eighties. Let's not forget the Sierra Cosworth and Escort Cosworth four-wheelers. The Mondeo is simply continuing this tradition, and that's a good thing. Without remorse, I can call him the "great" Mondeo.

evaluation

  • Definitely the best Mondeo I have ever ridden! The feeling of a limousine and sportiness at the same time. The voice of the six-cylinder engine is real, the hardness of the chassis is racing, and the hard seats provide good traction. We didn't save on equipment. The limousine is big for racing (long!), but with a bit of practice, we'll get through it quickly. Do you like DTM or BTCC racing? You have a “civilian” copy!
