Ford Mustang Mach-E: electric SUV will improve the autonomy of the 2022 model

The 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E has proven itself to be a good electric vehicle option, however charging times aren't that great. The company has decided to fix this issue for the 2022 release and will give the electric car more autonomy.

After performance testing, some potential issues have been identified that can be fixed. However, now one of the biggest problems will be fixed by 2022.

2022 Mustang Mach-E aims for more autonomy

The 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E made a short trip that lasted approximately three and a half hours. During this trip they presented slow loading time for the vehicle and charging stations that didn't work.

In fact, the charge on the Mach-E reaches zero before there is a working DC fast charging station. This made us appreciate the Mach-E's ability to do this, but wish it had more range and faster charge times.

Donna Dixon, Lead Product Engineer Mustang Mach-E, acknowledges these issues and plans to fix them by upgrading the 2022 Mustang Mach-E.. The current Mach-E is the foundation upon which Ford must be built.

How will Mach-E 2022 improve?

The Mustang Mach-E currently has a range of 211 to 305 miles, depending on the battery pack you choose and whether it's all-wheel drive or rear-wheel drive. This is the average for its class. The EPA rates this efficiency as equivalent to about 90 to 101 mpg. But The 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E should get an improved battery, with new upgrades coming in 2023 and 2024.. The first strategy for increasing range involves reducing the weight of the vehicle.

Ford will also look at other ways to improve battery efficiency. For example, will strive to improve the battery cooling system. The maze of hoses under the hood for the cooling system will be solved. Heavy rubber hoses can be replaced with thinner, lighter plastic hoses and rerouted to a combined single coolant reservoir instead of the existing dual reservoirs. The automatic parking latch will also be eliminated.

Some feel that the Mustang Mach-E's DC fast charging capabilities are underused. Charge treatment is quite good, with SOC ranging from 20% to 80%. Then it drops significantly. Perhaps this can be improved with a software update.

How is Mach-E charged?

You can charge at home with Ford mobile charger which is included. It can be plugged into a standard 120V outlet or a 14V NEMA 50-240 outlet. But that only adds about three miles per hour.

This is a level 1 charger. With a level 2 charger, you can go 20-25 mph. Alternatively, you can install a Level 2 charger at home or find one on the FordPass network.

DC fast chargers offer the highest speeds, but most homes don't have the electrical power to support them. It charges the battery from 0 to 80% in about 52 minutes. But it takes longer to reach 100% because the charging speed drops significantly after reaching 80%.
