Ford is under investigation by the NHTSA for taking too long to remove faulty rear view cameras from its vehicles.

Ford is having a hard time, and not just because it had to halt production of some of its models due to chip shortages. The brand is currently facing an NHTSA investigation for installing a faulty rear camera on its models.

Suppose you are a car manufacturer, for example Ford, for example, and you discard a car (or multiple cars) that were built with faulty component like, say, and people start complaining.

In this case, the chances are high that you will have to recall the car, which Ford did with its rear-view camera systems in over 700,000 vehicles worldwide.

The NHTSA believes that Ford has taken no action on this matter.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says it may Ford did not cope with the restoration of the rear view camera in a timely manner. It also says Ford may not have been broad enough with the recall, according to a notice filed last week by the agency and published by Automotive News.

Sounds like a sticky situation for Ford, right? Well, it is. If the NHTSA finds that Ford was late or didn't go far enough with the recall, it will likely impose some fines.. In addition, the agency plans to review Ford's own internal reporting policies to ensure they meet NHTSA standards.

Which models will be affected by the removal of rear view cameras?

The recall, which became known in September 2020, affected models such as Edge,, Expedition,, F-150 visa., F-250 visa., F-350 visa., F-450 visa., F-550 visa., Mustang, . and transit vans.

So far, Blue Oval has not made any statements about whether it could have imposed a fine or whether it was true that it knew about the faulty cameras before they were installed, however, unless Ford takes action about it. , may represent more than a fine from the NHTSA, something unfortunate, especially at this time when the company is going through hard times, given the stoppage of production of some of its models.
