Ford recalls 464 Mustang Mach-E due to unstable software

The recalled 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E was not produced in VIN order, so you need to call the dealer and see if your vehicle will be recalled. However, the solution will be sent directly to the car and it will be fixed without having to drive anywhere.

American automaker Ford is recalling nearly 464 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-Es off the streets of the United States due to software issues.

The problem is with the software in the powertrain control module that contains the electronics that help send power to the wheels (NHTSA), a bug can cause the car's safety software to always report zero torque on the output shaft. In this case, the vehicle may ignore possible unintended acceleration or unintended movement of the vehicle, which increases the risk of an accident.

The software was incorrectly updated to a later model year/software file, causing the software to malfunction.

In the NHTSA report, they explain that it can also incorrectly detect side hazard on the input shaft, which can cause the vehicle to go into emergency speed limit mode.

software updates Over-The-Air (OTA) will update the powertrain control module software for affected vehicles. This new automotive technology can also help repair recalled vehicles without going to the dealer.

The vehicles subject to the recall were manufactured without a VIN number, so Ford recommends that interested owners call their dealer to confirm if their vehicle is on the list. Every Mach-E under this recall has four wheel drive. Recall owners must receive a notice in the mail within two weeks.

With Ford delivering patched software to affected vehicles via over-the-air updates this month, many won't even need to leave their homes to fix the underlying problem. However, owners still have the option to ask technicians to install the update at the dealership, and both methods are free.
