Ford shows in study how it affects headphone use while driving

Car accidents can happen at any time and to anyone, but there are practices that increase the risk, and one of them is the use of headphones. Ford shared the results of a test that proves this fact

There are many things you should not do while driving. These include texting, shaving, brushing your teeth, drinking beer, etc. wear headphones. If you agree that driving all these things is not good, then you are well aware, but if you think that you are wearing headphones will not affect your ability to drivehere you could change your mind about it.

driving with headphones it's illegal in many places, but even where it's not against the law, this is a bad idea because it destroys your sense of spatial perception. Ford decided he was curious about how bad an idea it was, so open a studio in Europe to quantify this and announced the results of this study last week.

What was Ford's study?

The studio uses an 8D spatial audio application that aims to create realism through precisely controlled panning and equalization. This 8D audio is used in conjunction with a virtual reality street to create audio cues, which the study participants were then asked to identify; for example, they were asked if they could hear an ambulance approaching from behind.

Replicas were played for people without headphones and for people with headphones playing music. It was found that people who listened to music with headphones were on average 4.2 seconds slower in recognizing signals than those without headphones.

It might not sound like it, but 4.2 seconds is practically an eternity when it comes to the difference between hitting someone on a bike and dodging them.

Of the 2,000 participants in the study, 44% said they would no longer wear headphones while driving any vehicle. It's huge. If you think this sounds like bullshit, the good news is: do it yourself and hopefully change your mind.
