Consumer Reports loves the 2022 Ford Ranger

Ford reintroduced the Ranger as a midsize pickup for 2019. The Ranger initially received poor ratings from Consumer Reports for its transmission and drive system. But Ford has adjusted every model year and improved its ratings.

The 2022 Ford Ranger received an overall score of 62/100 according to Consumer Reports. It gets 75/100 for driving experience and 66/100 for comfort. Its highest rating category is the 5/5 weather system. Other honorable mentions include acceleration at 4/5, trunk/cargo space at 4/5, and transmission at 4/5.

Consumer Reports has high hopes for the durability of the 2022 Ford Ranger. The truck scored 4/5 for expected reliability. The publication also noted that the Ranger is more economical and agile than other medium-sized trucks.

Consumer Reports is not easy to impress with midsize trucks.

The Toyota Tacoma is one of the most popular cars in North America and holds its value better than anything on the road (it's second only to the Jeep Wrangler in resale). However, Consumer Reports was unimpressed with the 2022 Toyota Tacoma, giving it 51/100.

Consumer Reports was quick to call the Tacoma "uncomfortable", "uncomfortable to drive", "tough" and "obsolete". Toyota has been building the third generation Tacoma since 2015; the midsize truck is due to be completely redesigned before the 2023 model year.

The Nissan Frontier actually won the Tacoma with a Consumer Reports score of 51/100. Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon have 45/100. Finally, the Jeep Gladiator was in last place with a score of 38/100.

Consumer Reports complained that the Canyon and Colorado suffered from a "hard and choppy" ride and an "uncomfortable driving position". His biggest problems with the Gladiator were "handling", "wind noise" and "access".

Consumer Reports loves compact trucks

Interestingly, Consumer Reports ranked the 2022 Honda Ridgeline (82/100) and Ford Maverick (74/100) above all midsize trucks. Even the Hyundai Santa Cruz (59/100) outperformed the Ranger (62/100) but outperformed all other midsize trucks.
