Ford faces legal action over corrosion issues on F-150, Explorer and Mustang

Ford may be facing a class action lawsuit from some owners of the 150 to 2013 Ford F-2018, Ford Mustang and Ford Expedition models. The owners say these vehicles have a poor body structure that collects water and causes body corrosion.

The Ford F-150, Ford Explorer and Ford Mustang may have to settle in court as several lawsuits have been filed due to paint blistering and corrosion due to aluminum panel contamination.

Ford F-150, Explorer and Mustang models struggle with corrosion

Owners need to stop the rust and corrosion that is destroying their beloved Ford F-150, Ford Explorer and Ford Mustang models. But Ford's chipped paint claim doesn't meet the class action certificate despite complaints from owners of cars fitted with rusty aluminum panels.

This is not a completely new topic. Ford's original peeling paint includes 2013-2018 Ford Mustang, Explorer and Expedition models with hoods and other panels having rust and corrosion issues.

About 800,000 homeowners could be affected.

The plaintiffs are trying to prove that the cars have a common design flaw. However, there are significant differences between each model and model year of the Ford F-150, Mustang, Expedition, and Explorer.

The Ford paint peeling class action lawsuit may include about 800,000 owners, but the vast majority of owners have not experienced corrosion or paint problems.

What's the problem with paint?

Cars are said to suffer from paint blistering and corrosion caused by fouling of the aluminum panel. Some vehicles may have aluminum panels that corrode, causing the paint to blister, peel, and blister.

The plaintiffs allege that the problem is related to a defect in the leading edge of the hood on some vehicles. They suggest that there is no drainage route for water in the area. This repeatedly retains water, which leads to corrosion.

Another report states that Ford vehicles have an imperfect design due to a lip on the leading edge of the hood. It may not be able to stay dry without sealant all around.

In addition, Ford's paint chipping lawsuit suggests that Ford issued four technical bulletins to dealers regarding aluminum hoods and panels. This supposedly shows that Ford was aware of the rust and corrosion problems.

Will Ford repair damaged F-150s, Mustangs, Expeditions or Explorers?

Possibly, but Ford does not hold itself responsible for these issues with the Ford F-150, Mustang, Explorer and Expedition. The paint warranty only applies to perforated aluminum panels.

According to the paint lawsuit, Ford is not required to pay for damaged paint because the aluminum is not drilled through. In addition, the plaintiffs are not entitled to make claims in relation to products that they did not purchase.

Plaintiffs are prohibited from making claims under state law other than that arising from the plaintiff's own claim. They cannot sue on behalf of people outside of California, Florida, New York, Illinois, and Indiana.
