Gas filter - which one to choose, how long does it take to replace and how much does it cost? Learn about the symptoms of failure of LPG filters and gas installations

The main reason for the popularity of gasoline among motorists is its price. However, a gas installation requires much more careful maintenance. One item that needs to be replaced regularly is the gas filter.

Gas filter - what is a vapor phase filter and what is a liquid phase filter for?

There are two filters installed in a car with a gas installation installed:

  • volatile phase filter;
  • liquid phase filter.

They are used because the gas may have been contaminated during transport. It may contain metal filings and other particles and substances. The durability of the drive and the gas installation depends on the quality of the filtration.

What is a liquid phase filter used for?

The gas is in a liquid state in the tank of a car. The liquid phase gas filter is located between the tank and the evaporator. The gas is purified while it is still liquid. This element has the shape of a cylinder with a hole.

What is a volatile phase filter used for?

This type of filter is used to protect injectors. Gas in liquid form enters the reducer, where it changes its state of aggregation to volatile. Then he goes to this LPG gas filter. It is located exactly between the reducer and gas nozzles. You can easily find it; most often it is an aluminum or plastic can.

Gas filters - signs of malfunction

Clogging is the most common cause of LPG gas filter problems. The symptoms of a malfunction are as follows:

  • wave of revolutions at idle;
  • power drops;
  • there is an increased gas consumption;
  • noticeable problems with the gearbox and nozzles, elements subject to contamination.

To avoid the above problems, you should maintain your installation regularly. Refuel only at trusted gas stations to reduce the risk of filling the tank with low-quality gas.

LPG gas filter - how often to change?

Both filters should be changed every 10 or 15 thousand km. Detailed information can be found in the manufacturer's recommendations for this installation. Some models require filter replacement even every few tens of kilometers.

The efficiency of the filter depends on the filtering surface, that is, on the amount of impurities it retains. If you drive short distances, often stop at traffic lights and get stuck in traffic jams, you will need to change the gas filter more often. If you drive the car infrequently, it is recommended to periodically change the filter every 12 months.

The gas plant also forces more frequent oil changes. Can be consumed in the presence of acid combustion products.

Can I replace gas filters myself?

It is possible to replace the gas filter yourself. However, this requires knowledge of the installation. All this must be sealed, otherwise an explosion may occur.

Liquid and vapor phase filters - replacement

Here's what the filter replacement looks like:

  1. Turn off the gas supply from the cylinder.
  2. Start the engine to use up the remaining gasoline in the system.
  3. Stop the engine and disconnect the gas supply lines to the filter.
  4. Remove the filter.
  5. Replace old seals with new ones.
  6. Install a new filter. In the case of reusable filters, only the inner insert is replaced.
  7. Check the tightness of the installation.

If you do not have experience with gas installations, it is recommended to return it car to a certified mechanic. Proper replacement of the gas filter is very important. Incorrect installation can result in damage to the installation at best and an explosion at worst.

How much does it cost to replace gas filters?

Replacing the volatile phase filter costs about 10 euros. This takes up to 30 minutes. The gas filter itself with a volatile phase costs a few zlotys. The price of replacing the liquid phase filter is similar. The type of installation and brand also affect how much it costs to replace gas filters.

How to maintain a car with a gas installation?

If you want to drive a car with a gas installation for a long time and without fail, you need to take care of the ignition system. The gas mixture has a higher resistance, so special spark plugs should be used. Pay attention to the condition of the ignition wires, as this will help prevent future engine problems.

Is it worth choosing a gas installation in a car?

Here are the benefits of installing a gas system on a car:

  • savings - gas is much cheaper than gasoline;
  • a gas car is much more environmentally friendly because it does not contribute to the formation of smog;
  • at any time you can switch to gasoline;
  • the investment in the gas system should pay off after about 10 kilometers.

Remember that gas installation works best in cars that you use every day.

Replacing the gas filter is not difficult. However, this requires knowledge of the design of the gas installation. Incorrect replacement of the LPG gas filter can lead to very serious consequences. Safety is paramount, so contact a qualified service technician.
