Where is the motor ground wire located?

Basically, there is no real ground wire in the car. However, the standard terminology used to describe total car income is valid. Commonly, wires coming from certain electrical devices such as radios, batteries, and motors are referred to as "ground wires". In modern vehicles, the negative wire from the negative terminal of a car battery may also be referred to as a ground wire.

The above does not include the main battery in an electric vehicle, which is a different case.

Below we will look in more detail.

Location of ground connections, wires and surfaces in the vehicle

Not all vehicles have the same type of grounding. Some have ground wires, some don't. The following are possible grounding methods in various vehicles.

car body - car body

As a rule, the body of the car is on the ground. The connection to the vehicle body is made from each individual device in the vehicle.

Either a wire or a bolt through the body. Alternatively, metal devices can be connected directly to the car body - to ground.

Thus, for almost all vehicles, the body is the ground, because the body and chassis form the return path of the chains.

Note: Vehicles with non-conductive bodies and chassis require additional wires or pigtails to connect to the common return.

Ground metals

Positive earth systems

While most cars have negative grounded chassis and bodies, some vintage cars have positively grounded parts or systems.

Color code (green wire)

You can use the regular color code to pinpoint the ground wire in your vehicle. Usually the green wire represents ground. However, the green wire can serve other purposes as well. And it's not a reliable way to identify ground wire and connections.

Grounding tapes and circuits

Some vehicles use ground circuits to prevent damage from static sparks. Grounding circuits are used on fuel trucks.

Military tankers use a ground clamp to discharge static sparks between vehicles before connecting to a fuel line. (1)
