General Motors announces first electric bike of 2019

Cars, but also bicycles ... From 2019, General Motors will launch its first electric bike and will invite the general public to find a name for it.

For General Motors, it is positioning itself in a promising electric bike market with a model primarily aimed at commuter train passengers. This first electric bike from GM, available in a compact or foldable version, will offer “built-in safety features” and connected devices, particularly in terms of navigation.

On the technical side, today the information provided by General Motors is limited. In response to a USA Today question, a spokesperson for the group said it had a "proprietary drive system" developed by the manufacturer's teams and integrated into the system. However, there is no indication of the technology used for the battery, its capacity and autonomy. 

For now, GM is not providing details on its ambitions in this new market, in particular the possible rollout of its electric bike in self-service devices. The manufacturer does not provide any guidance on where it was manufactured or on how to distribute its electric bike, suggesting that we wait until next year to get more details.
